Hello to all, This weekend I attended the ICONS festival in Canton MA with my grandson - he enjoyed it for the carnival rides, I the music and the Irish wolf hounds. The festival is at the Irish Cultural Centre of New England, a beautiful spot just south of Boston. well attended and always a good time. Before we left there on Saturday, we stopped in at the Irish Tea House for a spot of tea and some brown bread. Finding no empty tables we asked a white-haired gentleman sitting alone if we could share his table with him. We spoke a bit about our Irish roots and while he never told me his name he did mention he was born in Waterville Kerry and lived for a time in Castletownbere. He certainly knew Riobard and his brothers, mentioning Riobard's brother Richie whom he described as a fine singer. I told him of Riobard's great help in finding my Beara roots, and he mentioned that he plays Irish music online including Richard Riobard's. I looked up his website - www.soundoferin.com - today and discovered - much to my delight - that he was none other than John Curran who is the founder of the Irish Cultural Centre! What a nice, unassuming gentleman! The ICONS festival has a tent devoted to genealogy = it was familiar ground - I feel triple blessed for this list serve, especially for all the folks sharing information and doubly for our own Riobard O'Dwyer - without you, Riobard, I would have never been able to fill in my family's Irish branches. Warmest regards, Julie O'Hanley, Fall River MA
Thank you for the kind remarks, Julie. And I'm delighted you enjoyed the festival so much. Richie is a first cousin of mine. His father, John, and my father, Liam, were brothers. To say both families were music mad would be putting it mildly !! Regards, Riobard. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Julie Ohanley" <johanley@comcast.net> To: <beara@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, September 15, 2008 3:30 AM Subject: [BEARA] ICONS festival > Hello to all, > > This weekend I attended the ICONS festival in Canton MA with my grandson - > he enjoyed it for the carnival rides, I the music and the Irish wolf > hounds.
