    3. And a very Merry/Happy Christmas to everyone on the Beara List too! I for one still put a candle in the window (even though it's a battery operated LED one on account of the potential fire hazard in a Manhattan apartment) and I celebrate January 6 (actually the Saturday that falls near it) by holding an Epiphany party for close friends. As for past traditions - My mother told me that on Christmas Eve the family had a special dinner with a fish called ling that they ate only on that day each year. She didn't continue that tradition here in the Staes, but she often reminisced about it, along with the candle in the window and greens brought in (but no tree) and the special treats like mince pies and oranges and how the shops in Castletown would give people a little extra something as a gift.
