    3. That's funny - because I am looking for Timothy Tade OSullivan in Adrigole, the townland. I tried entering just Adrigole yesterday, and it wasn't in the drop down menu. Guess I just enter it? I will try later. Thanks. >From: "John Caffrey" <jcbeara@gmail.com> >Reply-To: beara@rootsweb.com >To: <beara@rootsweb.com> >Subject: Re: [BEARA] Griffiths >Date: Thu, 7 Aug 2008 09:33:48 -0400 > >If it is just the townland you are interested in, then all you need do is >enter Adrigole in the field asking for the "place-name". > >To Riobard's point though, Adrigole is also a parish with many townlands. >As >a brief aside, I had to laugh when I looked up Coolieragh (in the Adrigole >parish). 3. I take it there is a thread about this in the archives? I just don't get how to use the 'Evaluation'. I searched for William Logan in Antrim and got 11 hits, but don't see anything helpful. I have he and his family on the 1901 census in Baltimore, Cork. The first 2 children (unless I'm mistaken at the time) were both born in Antrim, so thought I'd look there for the family. What good are these 11 hits to me searching? Seems only gives addy info if you ALREADY know where the family was... am I missing something? -----Original Message----- From: beara-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:beara-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Kevin MacKinnon Sent: Thursday, August 07, 2008 9:15 AM To: beara@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [BEARA] Griffiths That's funny - because I am looking for Timothy Tade OSullivan in Adrigole, the townland. 1. Re: [BEARA] Griffiths
    2. Lisa, There is approximately a fifty year difference between Griffiths and the 1901 census. Since there are very few other records for the time period around 1850, Griffiths helps to identify where our families were and possibly other males in the family. If a woman was listed, she was probably a widow, so that would tells us that the husband had died before the valuations were done. In my case, due to lack of records, we know of a Patrick Golden living in Knockaneyouloo in Kerry around the time of Griffiths' Valuation. We do not know who his parents were. We know from his family history that Patrick had a brother John and a sister Deborah. Now, my great grandfather was John Golden living in the townland of Cappamore in 1871 (right next to Knockaneyouloo). In Griffiths we see John, Patrick, and a Denis we did not know about all living in Knockaneyouloo (and no Goldens in Cappamore). So we now know where John was then and have another name, Denis. Was he another brother or the father? Further research will hopefully give us some answers, but in the meantime one of Patrick's descendants and I are convinced that my John and her Patrick were indeed brothers.
