Looking for help finding my Great Grandmother. Her name was Johannah Downey (maiden name) Johannah Sullivan her husband Andrew Sullivan Johannah Murphy later married to John Murphy. She is also listed on my Grandmothers marriage certificate as Elizabeth Sullivan. She is buried in Butte Montana. Died 1906 The 1880 census from Michigan shows there were 14 children with 9 living. She was married to John Murphy at that time, he was a Naturalized Citizen. The only information I have is that she came from Bere Haven County Cork. Her husband worked the peat bogs. When he came home from work had to find her as she still played with friends,( her doll and a new baby) her age was not given. She came to America date not known in a vessel. My grandmother would say she was from up north as her mother had coal black hair. I have no way to prove any of this. I like a good mystery and this has been a good one for a long time for me. If any one has information or a way to look, I would deeply appreciate it. Thank You Jeanine JMorey4657@aol.com **************New MapQuest Local shows what's happening at your destination. Dear Jeanine, In order to straighten out a few things, I hope you don't mind me asking you a few questions. What had Johanna Murphy/Elizabeth Sullivan (married John Murphy) to do with Johanna Downey (married Andrew Sullivan) ? Which of them is the "She" buried in Butte ? Surely from the births of the 14 children, you would be able to know the proper Christian name and original surname of the mother. Where were the "She" & John Murphy married ? And when roughly ? Do you mean that Johanna Downey (married Andrew Sullivan) later married John Murphy ? If the parents listed on your grandmother's marriage cert are John Murphy & Elizabeth Sullivan, I wonder is that incorrect ? What age was the "She" supposed to have been when she died in 1906 ? Had "she" any brothers or sisters that you know of ? Any of them married at home in "Bere Haven" ? The whole thing seems to be a bit unclear at the moment. You say you like a good mystery. So do I !! The fact that a woman has coal-black hair has nothing to do with whether she is from up north or down south. 'T'is just a fact of life. ---- Riobard. ----- Original Message ----- From: <JMorey4657@aol.com> To: <beara@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, October 10, 2008 4:20 AM Subject: [BEARA] Needing help > Looking for help finding my Great Grandmother. > Her name was Johannah Downey (maiden name) > Johannah Sullivan her husband Andrew Sullivan > Johannah Murphy later married to John Murphy. > She is also listed on my Grandmothers marriage certificate as Elizabeth > Sullivan. > > She is buried in Butte Montana.
