My grandmother said more than once that when she was growing up (in Derrymihin West in the 1890s) the only people she ever met who weren't related to her in some way were the British sailors and their families. -- Bill

Most of them were pretty careful about keeping things outside the 3rd degree of kindred, but an awful lot of 2nd and 3rd cousins found marital bliss. -- Bill
