    1. [BEARA] Padraig Harrington.
    2. Riobard O'Dwyer
    3. We all were thrilled to bits with the magnificent golfing victory of Padraig ---- a true Harrington of Bawrs (never say die). Bawrs is about half ways between Eyeries and Ardgroom ---- a little more on the Ardgroom side. All Padraig's uncles and aunts, as well as his father Paddy, attended Ardgroom School. So did I, and Paddy and I went to Rochestown Capuchin Franciscan College, Cork, together. In fact we were on the last Rochestown team to win the Munster Senior Colleges Football Championship. After that, Paddy joined the Guards/Policemen and became a famous footballer, while I became a Primary School Teacher and took mostly to athletics. I remember one time when we got holidays from Rochestown, we arrived in Castletownbere and had no money for the rest of the journey ('twas not long after the World War, and times were tough). We walked about 5 miles out across the hill to Bawers, and then I walked about 4 miles more to Ardgroom. It didn't do us any harm ---- just toughened us up. Padraig's Harringtons were of a very ancient tribe known as Uonhis. Some later adopted the name Harrington, while others adopted the name Sullivan/O'Sullivan. The Harrington Uonhis were mostly in the northern part of the peninsula, while there were a share of Sullivan/O'Sullivan Uonhis around the Allihies Parish. So, in line, Padraig's father was Paddy. Paddy's father was Tim. Tim's father was Jer. Jer's father was Jack. Regards, Riobard. -- I am using the free version of SPAMfighter for private users. It has removed 1373 spam emails to date.
