Hi everyone, this is my first post so I hope I'm doing it right! I'm looking for info about an Irish ancestor called Jeremiah Harrington who we think was born around 1832 in county Cork, family tradition says he was from Adrigole. His father was John Harrington, a farmer. There is a tale in the family that he was a first cousin of a prominent MP called Timothy Harrington. We don't know anything else about his time in Ireland, he was orphaned (probably during the famine?) and went to live in Dowlais in Wales when he was a young man (we know he was in wales by 1851). In Dowlais he married Ellen Golden (or Golding?) who we think was from Ovens in county Cork whose father was John Golden. I'm interested in any general information about these names and places, or tips for good resources where I can research this. Also I know there are different branches of Harringtons, which branch is found around the adrigole area? Has anyone heard of the MP Timothy Harrington (apparently he has a statue in Castletownbere), maybe if I could find details of his family it would give some more clues? Thanks for any help, Cath _________________________________________________________________ Beyond Hotmail — see what else you can do with Windows Live. http://clk.atdmt.com/UKM/go/134665375/direct/01/
Cath If you 'google' Timothy Harrington you will get much information on this MP! Hi Cath, Yesterday, I sent a reply to you directly regarding your email message. Did it come through to you? Your email search message, has looks like the best thing my group of relatives has seen for many a year! I have been watching for a search message to be transmitted to our list group list for many years. I think that our group might be the one for you! We just have to figure out how it all fits... I sent some brief information to you. Some of our group members have been looking for this connection for over twenty years but no such luck till now we are hoping... We could never find Jeremiah Harrington (Sr.) parent or branch name. The reason for some of the troubles are that almost all the church records were burned in about 1825. One of their children was born in Castletownbere and other nearby. Jeremiah Jr. had 11 children. The famous and by far the most knowledge genealogist for the Beara Peninsula area is Riobard O'Dwyer (with Harrington ties-ins too). He has try on several occurrences very hard to help us find our Beara connection, but no luck. Are you aware of how many Jeremiah Harrington have live in his area of interest; many, many! It is like Bob Smith in the USA. Jeremiah Sr. wife was Margaret Murphy from Eyeries. She was buried on the border town of New Diggens by her children , but NO Jeremiah Sr. to be found near by. The idea that Jeremiah Sr. might have been an orphaned, is very interesting! And there is more then twenty years of research here. Our USA tree probably have more then 500 individuals in it. Hear from you soon... Waiting for your reply...
