Decades ago, a friend had an unexpected adventure with his new Irish passport. He was doing a lot of International business travelling at the time and planes were being seized by terrorists all too often. Americans hostages were the most likely to suffer. He had wanted to get an Irish passport anyway, so the thought of greater safety was all he needed to proceed. He got it on a trip to Ireland with no trouble. He then thought that it would look more convincing if it had a few entries in it so he used it for a short trip that he and his wife took to Bermuda. No problem. However, coming home, he was asked for his visa to enter the US. This resulted in his wife returning home alone while he spent three days straightening out the citizenship mess. At least, he was stranded in a lovely place. The moral is: when you travel on an Irish passport, you're an Irish citizen. Jack Flynn
