Lisa, I did the process several years ago. I went in person to the embassy only because original documents were required and I didn't want to send them for fear of losing them. Also, if you go in person, they will tell you immediately if something is missing. I had to register through my Clare grandmother due to name inconsistencies on my grandfather's records. Good luck! Just a point of accuracy. Embassies are usually in capital cities and deal with government to government issues. Consulates are in major population and business cities and deal with person to government issues. The Irish office in Houston is a Consulate.
