Thanks for posting the links. Even though I have yet to find my Beara connection I really enjoyed looking at the various pages of Timothy Sullivan families and how they lived and worshiped and so on. I do have a few questions. What does DO stand for? I know it means duplicate above entry but wondered the exact meaning. What is a boiling house? Why is it that so many children listed as scholors still are listed as not able to read when aged 9 or 7 and so on? It seems quite a few families had more cow houses than rooms in their houses. What is a cow house vs a calf house and did they hold more than 1 animal each? What is/was the Church of Ireland? I did kind of crack up at the employment listing of "farmer's daughter" now we know who all those jokes were referring to. ~~C Sullivan
Do is abbreviation for ditto Church of England (a.k.a. Anglican church) was the established (state recognised) church in Ireland until the late 1860's I think. Can't help with the other queries except that cow or calf houses would have held a number of cattle (depending how affluent the family was).
