Bui (pronounced bwee) means yellow in Irish, so it could be a branch name. -----Original Message----- From: beara-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:beara-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of beara-request@rootsweb.com Sent: 23 July 2015 08:01 To: beara@rootsweb.com Subject: BEARA Digest, Vol 10, Issue 71 Today's Topics: 1. The maps provide visualisations of population data for all 32 counties across the island from 1841 to 2002. You can view the data for the Beara peninsula at http://airo.maynoothuniversity.ie/external-content/population-change-1841-20 02-cork These maps show numbers, not names. So you won't be able to see specific families vanish over time. But the numbers are all too vivid by themselves, showing the steep declines in population as the 19th century progressed into the 20th. Thank you all, for your assistance. I surely know more about the Buee name; it seems not to be a branch name for some more "common" name? I need to see how far into the 1800s it persisted ( or maybe it is still around and I just haven't heard it). I did a search on Buee on ancestry.com and familysearch.org and found the following on ancestry and on family search only one death of Elizabeth Buee in NY. Ireland, Tithe Applotment Books, 1823-1837 Danl Buee Derreen Upper, Kilcaskan, Cork 1827 Denis Buee Derreen Upper, Kilcaskan, Cork 1827 Timy Buee Derreen Upper, Kilcaskan, Cork 1827 Cornelins Buee Keeldromilino, Kilcaskan, Cork 1828 Denis Buee Lowery Derreen, Kilcaskan, Cork 1828 The Buey name seems to be far more common as there are many on ancestry.com but only about 18 on familysearch. One Buey family can be found in the 1911 Ireland Census records but I found none in the 1901 Ireland Census. You can search the censuses here: http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/ I think it is possible the names may be derivative of the surname Bowie or Bowey. The surname Bowie seems to have many different spellings. If you are looking for a particular Buey please let us know so we can see what can be found.
