    1. [BEARA] Ancestry adds Royal Navy Registers of Service 1900-28

    3. Dear friends of Beara, Ancestry.com has added a registry of Royal Navy personnel who served between 1900 and 1928. According to this article, it includes a great number of men from west Cork. http://www.irishgenealogynews.com/2015/02/ancestry-adds-royal-navy-registers -of.html Considering the huge naval base that was once at Bere Island, this might prove a rich trove for Beara researchers. Note, however, that it is rife with misspellings. Claire Santy reports: "Just a word of warning. The geographical awareness of the indexers or OCR equipment that prepared this database is pretty poor. With very little effort, I've found Skibbereen in County Cork recorded as Shibbereen, Sabbereen, Kibbereen, Skibbecen, Skibberun and Shibberan; Clonakilty as Cloakelty, Clona Kilty and Elonakilty; Drimoleague as Dkimoleagus; and Roscarferry, which at least is funny." 3. Thank you! I'm off to search. I am interested to see if my grandfather is included, since he jumped ship in Canada first opportunity he had. I have always wondered how long he was actually in the Royal Navy. -----Original Message----- From: gawne via <beara@rootsweb.com> To: beara <beara@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thu, Feb 19, 2015 9:09 am Subject: [BEARA] Ancestry adds Royal Navy Registers of Service 1900-28 Dear friends of Beara, Ancestry.com has added a registry of Royal Navy personnel who served between 1900 and 1928.
