    3. Hi Jim, Betty et al, I hoped that you'd get in on this Jim, as being a little older than me you'd know more than just the Leary connection. One thing that struck me to tell Betty is that where she sees Cloghlin, it is an old spelling or mis-recording of where you and I Jim, call Cloughland - there are many spellings I've found - and that Cloughland is a 'townland' on Bere Island, which of course is in Berehaven !! As you say - Up Bere Island !! Cheers - Ann Berry - O'Sullivan-Og of The Strand, Cloughland, Bere Island. -----Original Message----- From: beara-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:beara-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of greenane via Sent: 17 January 2016 15:01 To: elizabeth lawrence; beara@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [BEARA] Argentina/O'Leary/Crowley Hi Elizabeth, a relative of yours was my first teacher in grade school in Bere Island back in the thirties. I've lived in the Boston area for 66 years and I never met any of themand I was a member of the old Boston Beara club and the newer Boston Beara society I hope this is helpful to you and if there's a! nything I can do let me know. They were married in Ireland February 5, 1877 and went to Argentina that same year. The family lore is that he was the black sheep and she had been forbidden from marrying him. He was 32 at the time, and she only 18. They eloped by hopping on the first ship they could, or so I was told. Cornelius' parents were Quinlan Leary and Mary McCarthy, and Catherine's parents were Jeremiah Crowley and Catherine Quill [or Johanna Quinn?]—all four seemed to have remained in Ireland. Records show the name as Quinlan Leary, not O’Leary. Jeremiah Crowley seems to have married twice: first to Johanna Harrington, with whom he had six children, and then to Johanna “Jane” Quille, with whom he had six more children. I believe all twelve of the offspring went to Argentina, and only one, Denis, returned to Bere Island. I would love to hear from anyone who knows anything about these families. Thanks! 3. Hi Jim and Ann, Thanks for the quick response. Jim, please pass my email on to Dermot [or anyone else who knows of the Argentine connection]. I would love to hear from him. In addition to the O'Leary/Crowley/McCarthy/Quill connection to Beara, my mother's paternal grandparents also went from Ireland to Argentina. They were from County Wexford--the McDonnells and O'Connors. The O'Leary/Crowley and McDonnelll/O'Connor marriages each produced 11 or 12 children, and those kids married Irish-Argentines -- so there are Cummins, and Foxes, and Morrows, Fallons, and McLaughlins...I grew up [in California] believing that most of Argentina was populated by the Irish! Ann, thanks for the tip on spelling. It does get confusing to this novice! 3. Hi Elizabeth, I am Argentine and living here, in Córdoba, Argentina. My ancestors came to Argentina and they were from Bere Island too. Jeremiah Sullivan, born 1853. Some of his sisters and brothers came too. And apparently he came around 1877, I am not sure, but I guess that it could be arount this year because a sister of him (Mary Sullivan) married in Córdoba 1880 to Patrick Murphy, born 1853 in Bere Island too.
