    3. I had an ancestor who came to Boston in the mid-1820’s from Beara. It appears he left a wife and a couple of children in Ireland for a few years. What was the mechanism used to arrange for money to be sent from the States back to Ireland to support the family? Also was it common for the men to return to Ireland from time to time to see their families? 3. Tom, Who was your ancestor, Christian name, and Surname ? ---- and, besides, the Surname, (before marriage), & Christian name of your ancestor ? ---- if there were any Branch Names attached to either ? Any idea where in Beara he/she was from ---- Parish and/or Townland ? Any idea of rhe Christian names of his/her brothers or sisters, if he had any ? Have you any idea of who HIS ancestors were ----- Christian names, and Surnames of both ----- especially the Surname of the wife in that case ? If from the same Parish ---- or were they from a different Parish originally ? Many husbands went to the USA, and returned again ----- or sent the money through other emigrants. Joan's grandfather emigrated & made some money as a miner. He came home for a while; then returned to Butte; returned from Butte to Eyeries or Rossmacowen temporarily, and then returned to Butte where he died as a Miner one week before his son (Joan's father) was born in Eyeries. Times were tough/difficult in those days. Riobard. On 15 February 2016 at 11:53, Tim King via <beara@rootsweb.com> wrote: > I had an ancestor who came to Boston in the mid-1820’s from Beara. 3. Tim, Another thing. When people from Beara left home to go copper-mining in Butte, Montana, in case they might never again have a chance of coming back, they sometimes brought a little bit of clay from Beara with them, to be placed on top of their coffins when they died.
