Hi - My family descends from Timothy "Tade" O'Sullivan and Brigid O'Sullivan from Adrigole (the townland) as described on page 6 and 7 of Riobard's Annals of Beara Vol 1. Thru DNA, my father connected with someone who descends from the Jeremiah O'Sullivan / Mary O'Sullivan family from Dirreeny described on pp. 81 and 70. We have no obvious connections in our tree, but I imagine we are one generation off in our records. Question - can I assume that Adrigole and Dirreeny are reasonably close and that a marriage between people living in these townlands is probable? With all parties being O'Sullivan's, it may take more time to figure this out - I know its a long shot. thx Kevin

Kevin, 'Tis great to be young (or reasonably young) like yourself. Many things have arrived in the world since I was young, including DNA. I had never heard of it until a few years ago. 'Tis hard to believe it, but when I was a very young boy going to primary school, we didn't even know that such a thing as a television set existed. We had never heard of such a thing. All we had was (I don't remember exactly now) one dry-battery or a wet-battery radio in the village, where many people around listened, with their ears close to a commentary of a game/match. But we survived. Common sense is better than all the TV's in the world. As regards O'Sullivans here, it is full of them, several with Branch-Names, to differentiate one from another. I remember an American man trying to trace his ancestry phoning me at half past four while in bed one morning, telling me that his greatgrandfather was an O'Sullivan from Co. Cork and wondering if I could trace him for him !! One time, a genealogist was asked to trace a man's ancestors as far back as the genealogist could go. The genealogist "traced" them back as far as Adam and Eve, and charged him accordingly !! In the olden days, several people hereabouts married either their nextdoor neighbours, or a man or woman from adjoining townlands. That was in the days of the matchmaking. Riobard. Hi, Do you have a name for the "someone who descends from the Jeremiah O'Sullivan / Mary O'Sullivan family from Dirreeny"?  Who were his/her parents?  I have done some research on that family.
