My mother, Mary Jane Holland, was born in Butte in 1899. but was sent back to live with her Grandparents in Castletownbere at Gauer House when she was one or two. The family story was that Butte was just too tough a place to raise a daughter. I think she stayed there 'til she was about 7 or 8 when her parents came to fetch her back to Butte. She was so upset about leaving sweet Cork, the story goes, that she asked the priest if he would marry her, so that she could stay on. He declined and so off she went to Montana, never to return but with a wealth of kind words and happy memories for Beara. Thanks again Riobard. Tooraloo...

David, Could you tell me who your mothers parents/grandparents were? My Hollands were from Castletownbere and Kilmackowen And we can not give Riobard enough thanks for all that he has given us!
