    3. *I read that one of your readers is wondering about the name Haulsey. Well, it could come from maybe two things:- 1) From the Christian name Michael, which is Micheal (pronounced like Meehawl) in Gaelic. For example, the Christian name Michael could be attached to what is known as "the Michaels" --- the descendants of some Michael/Micheal (who would have been one of their ancestors --- and that would lead to, for instance, Jack (Micheal) Harrington. Or the Name, for example,Jack, who would be called, knownby Jacksy locally; or Patrick who would be known as Patsy. Sothe name Micheal could be known as Haulsey. The meaning of Haulsey could come from a craft/trade. for instance "the Haulseys" could come from people who originally practiced acraft/trade. For example Patsy (Haulsey) Harrington (whose name, or ancestor's name, in that case) would have come from a man practising, or would have practiced/practised the craft/trade Haulsey. Or, another person I have known as Michael (the Weaver) Sheehan was a man who practised the craft of weaving. I haven't read of anybody else in the Beara giving any explanation or possible explanation of Haulsey, so I am putting my head on the block, and giving my cent's or dollar's worth ---- for what it is worth. If there is anybody out there who can do better, then I would love to bow to his/her expertise. ---- Riobard. *

    3. Riobard, I think your contributions are always worth much more than MANY "dollars worth"!!! (...As I write this to you, I am thinking of commenting on my own comment with some kind of witty apology for my own poverty...but I sincerely appreciate your contributions...even though I don't send money!) /Susan On Oct 23, 2012, at 9:30 AM, Riobard O' Dwyer wrote: > ..., so I am putting my head on the block, > and giving > my cent's or dollar's worth ---- for what it is worth. 3. Go to this site and put the name Halsey in the surname search. You will note the variation of the name -- Hallissy is prominent in county Cork/Kerry. There are other variations of the name throughout Ireland. http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/surname/index.cfm?fuseaction=Go.&UserID= Tue, Oct 23, 2012 at 11:30 AM, Riobard O' Dwyer <[email protected]>wrote: > *I read that one of your readers is wondering about the name Haulsey. > Well, it could come from maybe two things:- > 1) From the Christian name Michael, which is Micheal (pronounced like > Meehawl) in Gaelic. 2. Oh Riobard, I was so hoping that you would pop in and tell him that it was a branch name. :( I had my fingers crossed for him. Now he is in the boat with the rest of us, fishing for that next bit of information that will help to break through the brick wall. Thank you for setting me straight.
