Michael C. Murphy (1788-1890) of Clonglascan and Catherine Harrington (Caobach) of Goulane, Kilmacowan, Eyeries, parents of Timothy Murphy of Clonglascan, County Cork, Eire. Based on autosomal DNA match, trying to connect with family in Boston area and Charleston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts USA, some settling in Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, etc.. Timothy Murphy (1825-1903) married Mary Murphy, daughter of Darby Rua Murphy and Maire Bhan O'Neill of County Cork, Eire. Possible siblings in America include Dennis, Mary, John Henry, Jeremiah, Cornelius, Patrick, Julia and Daniel (my mother's great-grandmother). Daniel married Johanna Crowley of Derrycriveen, Beera, County Cork in 1856 at St. Malachy's Church, Beaver Dam, Dodge County, Wisconsin. Daniel died 20 February 1900 at Horicon, Dodge County, Wisconsin USA. Family tradition has their mother's name as Kate as Catherine above. -- Michael O'Hearn
Michael, Although my DNA results say that our common ancestor may be a Murphy, I am thinking that perhaps we may be related through the Harringtons. This is a "long shot", but my great-grandmother Mary Harrington who married Dennis Twomey in Grass Valley, CA in 1870 was born c. 1850 in Ireland, but not sure where. Most records say Cork, but one church record says Kerry...so perhaps close to the border. I have a birth record for her first son Daniel that says he was born in Massachusetts...very possibly Charleston outside Boston. There was a Dennis and Mary Twomey listed as parents of Daniel born Aug. 1872...same date Dan lists on his WWI draft registration card...although that says he was born in California. Arizona 1882 census says he was born in Massachusetts. My greatgrandmother named her first daughter Mary, but her second daughter was Catherine/Katherine/Kate. Names of the boys were Daniel, Dennis, and John Francis. Do you have these names in your family? My greatgrandmother Mary Harrington Twomey had a brother Francis Joseph "Frank" Harrington in San Francisco c. 1894...who was a witness to her daughter's marriage. He lived for a time in Arizona not far from his sister. My greatgrandmother married in California in 1870, had 5 children born in California, Massachusetts and Nevada. Her husband Dennis who was a gold miner died in San Bernardino, CA 1878, and then she moved to Tombstone, Arizona and then Bisbee, and then back to Los Angeles, CA where she died in 1931. Anyway, Harringtons and Murphy's were so many, it's been hard knowing for sure sometimes if I'm on the right track...but it is possible we have a Harrington/Boston/Eyeries connection?
