Patricia Sincere condolences from Canada.. Donal was one of the last of Irelands warriors who truly knew what defending the real Ireland was all about, His debates and discussions will be sorely missed. kathleen, welcome, just wanted to tell you it is well worth getting all three books. As many of the extended families moved around and one may mention relatives the other didn't. I had no idea how to track my great grandmother. To my surprise, while looking through vol I for possible relations to my great grandfather, I found my great grandmother in volume 1, and knew it was her as it said she married my great grandfather of Kilmackowen, even mentioned his brothers. I found relations in all three books, it was rather amazing. Hello Jane, all, As far as I know, the Beara to Brefine book is still available. Donal's e-mail is currently being answered by his wife, Pat. She'll let you know if there's a copy to be had. Just send a note to the dospoet e-mail address given in the blog piece. Bill Jane Harrington <janefharrington@gmail.com> writes: > Thanks, Bill, for that post on Donal's wedding. Lovely! Thanks, Bill, for that post on Donal's wedding. Lovely! So heartwarming to read on a chilly fall morning in the mountains of Virginia. I re-read the other posts on the Beara's Children blog, as well, and I'm remembering now that I want to have a copy of the new edition of the Beara to Brefine book. Do you know the best way to purchase that at this point? What a talented writer Donal is, and obviously brave, as seems to be a common trait of Celtic poets! Jane Harrington
And thank you also, Bill. I can see that I came to the right place! Kathleen, You can buy his new book at: http://www.lulu.com/shop/nt-riobard-odwyer/annals-of-beara-volume-iii/ebook/product-20071457.html Volume III covers Castletownbere. Slán, Marge in Southern California Searching: Golden, Sullivan, Kelly, Shea, in Kerry and Connecticut O'Connor in Kerry Fee, Cassidy, Gilbride in Fermanagh, Cavan, Kildare and Connecticut Lynch in Limerick and Connecticut Walsh, Stackpole, Garry/Garrey/McGarrey, Donovan, Doyle, Clowney/Clooney, King in Kildare
Hi All, By way of introduction, I am the great-granddaughter of George Brosnan and Ellen O'Neill. My grandmother was Christine Marie Brosnan who married Joseph F. McCandless in Vicksburg, Mississippi. I attempted to do Brosnan research a number of years ago but moved away from it to concentrate on several family lines within the U.S. before jumping the pond. Now that I've made the decision to work in Ireland I truly wish I had bought a copy of of Who Were My Ancestors Castletownbere Parish when they were still readily available. Ah well... Mr. O'Dwyer (who I see pops in here every now and again) made the comment about my great uncle Johnny Brosnan as being "one of the most outstanding men I have ever met with the gift of tracing and remembering families long gone from the area". I did meet Johnny in November 1979 when visiting Ireland and we did talk "family". Unfortunately, we didn't do as much of that as I would have wished. With the exception of the Brosnan line all my other family lines are long-time American lines and are a mixture of most of the northwestern Europe countries. So, I will be reading the posts and asking questions, on occasion. I am fairly certain that those of you already here are very knowledgeable and I will have little new to contribute! Kathleen Casson Walker
