    3. Hi, my gr gr grandfather James Shea may have married Mary Quirk, daughter of Bridget and Daniel Quirk, as his second wife. This marriage and the births of the first of their children took place in Dowlais, Glamorgan, Wales and then they immigrated to Yorkshire, England. These Quirks were from Kerry - possibly Killorglin or south/southwest of there. I do not know of Quirks who may have come to the U.S., but others Sheas came to CT. I doubt that there is any relation between these and yours? 3. John, Neither James nor Mary appear in the Detroit city directory for the years 1870, 1871 or 1872. There is a Mary but she is the widow of Michael, I believe. I checked both Driscoll and O'Driscoll. Since he was 70 years of age, I doubt that they were just passing through. I am thinking that the family listed above them (in the same dwelling-house) is the daughter's family. Maybe tracing them will help. The records come from the UK National Archives in Kew and contain registers listing young men who were indentured to merchant navy ships during that time period. >From 1823, Masters of British merchant ships of 80 tons and over were required to carry a given number of indentured apprentices. These had to be duly enrolled with the local Customs Officer. These provisions were extended by the Merchant Seamen Act 1835 which provided for the registration of these indentures. The collection includes many Irishmen, including some of my own ancestors. Details provided include name, age and date at registration or indenture, vessel, port of registry, and birth year. Not all include a place of birth, but some do and may provide the vital location reference for men who subsequently settled outside Ireland and were recorded in censuses as 'from Ireland'. The maps provide visualisations of population data for all 32 counties across the island from 1841 to 2002. You can view the data for the Beara peninsula at http://airo.maynoothuniversity.ie/external-content/population-change-1841-20 02-cork These maps show numbers, not names. So you won't be able to see specific families vanish over time. But the numbers are all too vivid by themselves, showing the steep declines in population as the 19th century progressed into the 20th. I need to see how far into the 1800s it persisted ( or maybe it is still around and I just haven't heard it). 3. I did a search on Buee on ancestry.com and familysearch.org and found the following on ancestry and on family search only one death of Elizabeth Buee in NY. Ireland, Tithe Applotment Books, 1823-1837 Danl Buee Derreen Upper, Kilcaskan, Cork 1827 Denis Buee Derreen Upper, Kilcaskan, Cork 1827 Timy Buee Derreen Upper, Kilcaskan, Cork 1827 Cornelins Buee Keeldromilino, Kilcaskan, Cork 1828 Denis Buee Lowery Derreen, Kilcaskan, Cork 1828 The Buey name seems to be far more common as there are many on ancestry.com but only about 18 on familysearch. One Buey family can be found in the 1911 Ireland Census records but I found none in the 1901 Ireland Census. You can search the censuses here: http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/ I think it is possible the names may be derivative of the surname Bowie or Bowey. The surname Bowie seems to have many different spellings. If you are looking for a particular Buey please let us know so we can see what can be found.
