    2. Riobard O'Dwyer
    3. I must congratulate Bill Mulligan on his well-researched, highly informative lecture "From the Emerald Isle to the Copper Island: The Irish in the Michigan Copper Country, 1845-1920". An absolute masterpiece. Well done, Bill. Regards, Riobard. -- I am using the free version of SPAMfighter for private users. It has removed 1388 spam emails to date. 3. Yeah, I just had to share!  I just got off the phone with Cousin Patrick O’Sullivan’s son “Jack” who is now living in Sarasota, FL.  He has been able to give me much info and has pictures to boot of almost the whole family.  AND, his/our cousin Winnie Murphy, who was an instructor in Castletownbere is now living on the Island with her husband and is in charge of The History of Bere Island!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We also called Winnie's sister now living in Scotland. Looks like we have found our family and should be able to get the ‘rest’ of the story when we finally get to the island! By the way, Riobard, he says he has your book somewhere and his mother Ellen Innis Doyle O’Sullivan, made 4 pages of notes in it!  We hope to visit him as well, and look forward to filling in the gaps of our family! I love the list and the common bond we share, I only wish my late father were still alive, he certainly would have enjoyed this list. He emigrated to the US but he left his heart in Beara. . 3. Susan, My Grandfather's sister married a Harrington Caskey so it would be a way back, but not as far back as 1860. Yes, indeed we are all related. When I visited my Aunt in Cork, I met a young man in a yarn shop in Wilton and he asked me about my family. When I said they were from Carrig, he looked surprised and it turned out that his family lived right behind ours. It's a small world and getting smaller. 1. [BEARA] Padraig Harrington.
    2. Riobard O'Dwyer
    3. We all were thrilled to bits with the magnificent golfing victory of Padraig ---- a true Harrington of Bawrs (never say die). Bawrs is about half ways between Eyeries and Ardgroom ---- a little more on the Ardgroom side. All Padraig's uncles and aunts, as well as his father Paddy, attended Ardgroom School. So did I, and Paddy and I went to Rochestown Capuchin Franciscan College, Cork, together. In fact we were on the last Rochestown team to win the Munster Senior Colleges Football Championship. After that, Paddy joined the Guards/Policemen and became a famous footballer, while I became a Primary School Teacher and took mostly to athletics. I remember one time when we got holidays from Rochestown, we arrived in Castletownbere and had no money for the rest of the journey ('twas not long after the World War, and times were tough). We walked about 5 miles out across the hill to Bawers, and then I walked about 4 miles more to Ardgroom. It didn't do us any harm ---- just toughened us up. Padraig's Harringtons were of a very ancient tribe known as Uonhis. Some later adopted the name Harrington, while others adopted the name Sullivan/O'Sullivan. The Harrington Uonhis were mostly in the northern part of the peninsula, while there were a share of Sullivan/O'Sullivan Uonhis around the Allihies Parish. So, in line, Padraig's father was Paddy. Paddy's father was Tim. Tim's father was Jer. Jer's father was Jack. Regards, Riobard. -- I am using the free version of SPAMfighter for private users. It has removed 1373 spam emails to date. 3. I was rooting all the way for Padraig....my cousin Joe "Doyle" Sullivan is a retired policeman living in Dublin...he was born on Bere Island and left when he was about 13 yrs old.....I was lucky enough to travel with him through every nick and cranny on Bere Island where he still knows many people still there.....He also belongs to Stackstown Golf Club in Rathmines, Dublin and brought me there......this club was started by Padraig's father who was also a policeman and the membership has to be 50% policemen or retired policemen....His dad actually helped built this fine course and its where Padraig grew up and crafted his golf skills.......I was always interested in his beara roots and Riobard had written a very nice informative piece explaining the connection...His dad was quite a guy..........so with his beara roots, i'll always be a Padraig fan!   Pat O'Leary Boston --- On Wed, 7/23/08, carrignua <carrignua@comcast.net> wrote: From: carrignua <carrignua@comcast.net> Subject: Re: [BEARA] Padraig Harrington To: beara@rootsweb.com Date: Wednesday, July 23, 2008, 12:15 AM Susan, I have Hasrrington Caskeys as well.
