    2. Hi Joan, Neither the US Post office or most US banks convert money into Euros... I get my brother in law in Canada to secure my Euro check. Also, I have a dual citizen (Irish/Amer) friend who still maintains an Irish checking account. It does seem so '19th century' that you have to do it this way. All the best. 3. Joan, I have sent cash, and I know this is a leap of faith, but it was received and they said it was no problem to exchange it over there. I have sent personal checks to family and they never complained about getting them cashed. 3. Dear Joan, I have sent checks drawn on an American bank to Ireland several times for donations and such. Thus, I always know exactly how much it will cost me. What proportion of the funds become lost to currency exchange on the other side of the pond I cannot say, but I suspect it is much less than I would spend trying to get Euros here to send there. If you want to absorb the exchange fee, too, just bump up your donation by, say, 10%. That should about cover it. Also worth mentioning that Riobard O'Dwyer asks clients NOT to send a check drawn on a credit union. Perhaps he has had some delay or expense in the past when he received such a check from the states. 3. They should be able to deposit a US dollar check, although there will be a bank fee for the currency conversion. I recall it as being roughly 2-3%. Also, remember the exchange rate. It has been fluctuating between $1.30 and $1.35 to the Euro. I usually use http://www.xe.com/ucc/ to check. The site does conversions either way. Bill William H. 3. Hi Dan, all, The US Postal Service sells International Reply Coupons for $2.10 these days. An IRC can be used to obtain postage for a letter weighing up to 20 grams in any country that is a member of the Universal Postal Union. Ireland is a UPU member country. See http://www.usps.com/prices/extra-services-prices.htm for other international services offered by the USPS. For more about the IRC, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_reply_coupon All the best, Bill Gawne Dan Harrington <danharrington1@comcast.net> writes: > QUESTIONS: > > 1. 3. Dan, You can get stamps for Ireland [or most any country] from William J. Plum, 12 Glenn Rd., Flemington NJ. Phone: 908-788-1020 or email to plumdx@msn.com. I got some Irish stamps from him last fall -- they were then $1.70 per packet [but check with him for latest prices] plus $1.00 P&I per order. I've dealt with him over several years and have had no problems. Incidentally, using a SASE is a very good way to get a reply -- never had it fail. There are no international stamps good in all countries -- there is an international reply coupon, you can ask about it at your local post office.
