    1. Re: [BEARA] More Sullivan and Murphy research
    2. After posting this, I bumped into Riobard's listing of the parish of Adrigole and Glengariff, and found Jeremiah and Nora Sullivan Murphy. I'll pass the information on to my new found Murphy cousin so that she can eventually do the research there. In the process of digging through the archives, I also found an old posting from Larry McCarthy listing a Mary J. Murphy (who married John O'Neill) in Colorado as the oldest sibling in our family John (Jack) Murphy and Mary Harrington Murphy. That would solve a puzzle that I've been working on for years. I have an oral history tale from Maggie Murphy Holland that she and her sister came to Butte in 1880 and that she went to visit her married sister in Leadville in 1882, where she met and married Michael Holland. I suspect that this sister might be the woman on the left in the Montana couple that I posted a while back. Mr. McCarthy lists his source of Mary J.'s placement in our family as Riobard's Eyeries book, but my copy doesn't mention her at all. She could fit into the roster as the eldest child, but when I went to contact Mr. McCarthy in Plains, Montana at his ranch called Beara West, I discovered that he passed on last year, so don't have a way of verifying his information. I plan on sending a condolescence card and a copy of the photograph to his family and hope for some verification. I had assumed that Catherine (Kate) Murphy might be the married sister, but can't find anything on her even though I have searched the 1880 census for all women with that first name and all the marriage records that I can find. I understand that with the burning of the Lake County courthouse, that there may be missing records. So I'm excited about the possibility that we might have tracked down another set of descendants. 3. Hi, Have you tried Coloradohistoricalnewspapers.com It is free. There is a lot of mentions of Sullivans and Harringtons. I found the obit of Hannah Sullivan 1918 there where it is also mentioned that her husband Peter died in 1909, and her children. There are articles mentioning children leaving and to and from where and relatives visiting. It is time consuming, but that is how I was able to connect 8 of my great grandfathers brothers and sisters. A lot of them lived in Blackhawk and Central city, Gilpin County before coming to Leadville as that is where the jobs in the mines were before Leadville boomed. Many went to Eureka Utah when things got tough in Leadville, and then came back or went to Butte. Most in that area where married and buried in Leadville or Glenwood Springs, Pitkin county, due to that is where the catholic churches were. 2. Jane, Thanks for the leads. My only leads in this are two photos that were found in Michael Murphy's estate. One is of the gravestone of Jeremiah and Honora, and another is of the house. I'm very familiar with Eyeries and have Riobard's Eyeries book. Was just curious whether that area was included in another book of his. And thank you for reminding me to dig through Griffith's, I'll start digging this weekend. Am just chuckling, had a good laugh with my Murphy cousin about the fact that she has two Jeremiah Murphy ancestors on both sides of her Murphy families. I'm related to seven Mary Harrington's to date. Just when you think you're done researching, along come more Sullivans and Murphys. 3. My Grandather's aunt, Annie (Anna) Shanahan from Bocarnagh, Glengarriff married a Daniel Murphy from Bocarnagh, in Glengarriff Church in 1865. Daniels death record in Deerfield, Ma listed his parents as Jerry Murphy and Mary O'Sullivan. Daniel was born abt 1843 and died in 1868 (for frame of reference). I presume that the parents' names were provided by Annie. Interestingly, the death certificate of their son Daniel listed his father's name as Patrick. The informant in that case was a cousin, son of Annie's brother. I know from my last visit in 2006 that there were Murphy's still in Bocarnagh. And btw, Glengarriff/Bonane are not included in Riobard's Eyries book. -----Original Message----- From: beara-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:beara-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Jane Devine Sent: Friday, October 09, 2009 8:48 PM To: Beara@rootsweb.com; beara@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [BEARA] More Sullivan and Murphy research Dear Theresa and BEARA Friends, I have many relatives in Glengarriff that are buried in the Glengarriff Cemetery across from Sacred Heart Church in Glengarriff.
