Teresa this is a great story and fascinating for me personally because I have 3/16th ancestry from Beara, that is, three great-great-grandparents. And guess the surname of two of the three? Sullivan of course! Thanks Teresa and Bill and Riobard for this link and all you do. Do you realize how hungry everyone else in the world is for news about the old country? We find a Harrington married an O'Sullivan and maybe the town-land and not much more until we get digging or until someone on the list offers these wonderful memories. Thanks to you and Bill. I couldn't empathise more with your feeling of whether they could be your family. It reminds me that I should repost my interests again just in case . I am a Sullivan from my father whose family came to Australia around 1907 from Ireland via a generation in Wales. I live in hope of finding my family one day. Thank you again. Hi Teresa, all, Teresa wrote: > I found myself wondering how many of you were my distant > relatives. I'm pretty sure we're all related, as long as our ancestors were among the families of the Beara peninsula. I know my grandmother told me more than once she was related to everyone she knew growing up in Castletownbere, save only the British sailors at the naval station. The trick, of course, is in figuring out how we're related. Riobard's marvelous work has helped us quite a bit, but it's still very hard to identify marriages that took place before ~1830, and nigh unto impossible to identify any before 1798. Even so, I do consider you all my extended family. We're a vast bunch of cousins flung across the world, with common ancestry and common heritage. -- Bill

Thanks Bill and Teresa for finding this elegant solution to distribution! The book is wonderful. It's like sitting once again in the kitchen in Inchenteskin in the 1970s, listening to my mother and her brothers and sister talk about their youth. Most of the people listed are their contemporaries. I even know some of them. I realize how blessed I was to have been able to know them. Today is the 35th anniversary of my mother's death and close to the anniversaries of the deaths of my aunt and one uncle. This is a moving way to remember them. Thanks again.
