    3. Hi folks: Wondering if anybody out there has devoted some time and effort to researching the connection between Col. Ninian Beall and the Calvert family of Lord Baltimore fame. I note with interest that Ninian was born in Fife, Scotland in 1625, the son of Dr. James Bell and Anne Maria (or Marie) Calvert. I haven't been able to find out anything so far about Anne Maria Calvert but I strongly suspect that she was a member of the same batch of Calverts who produced the Lords Baltimore. The earliest I've been able to find is one John Calvert of Yorkshire in the 1500s, found of the Calvert family as far as I cane make out. The family later scattered all over northern England (perhaps southern Scotland as well?) then south to London and into history. I'v e traced a few Anne Calverts, but none of them appear to be Ninian's mother. If Ninian's mom did come from the Lord Baltimore Calverts, it sure would explain how he rose like a rocket in Maryland affairs after arriving from Barbados as an indentured carpenter owned by a Quaker named Hall. Anybody out there have any further thoughts or leads? Thanks in advance, dennis bell (of the Largo, Fife Bells) burnaby, bc canada
