Here is the first generation and the direct line of descent to my 4X great-grandfather Abel Beal, Jr who went to NS. ~ ~ ~ ~ Descendants of John Beal Generation No. 1 1. John1 Beal was born 1588 in Hingham, Norfolk Co, England, and died Apr 01, 1688 in Hingham, MA. He married (1) Frances Ripley Jun 11, 1616 in Wymondham, Norfolk Co, England. He married (2) Nazareth Hobart Jul 13, 1628, daughter of Edmund Hobart and Margaret Dewey. He married (3) Mary Nichols Mar 10, 1658/59. Notes for John Beal: >From "John Beal The Centenarian & Descendants": "He came from the parish of Hingham, in the County of Norfolk, England, which is situated about fourteen miles west of Norwich, the shire town, and about ninety-eight miles northeast of London. He came to America on the vessel called the "Diligent" of which John Martin was master, arriving at Boston on the tenth of August, 1638. Daniel Cushing, one of the early town clerks of Hingham, also came to New England on the "Diligent." In one of his manuscripts, we find a list of the early settlers of Hingham, which has fortunately been preserved. He says, "John Beal, shomaker, with his five sons, three daughters, and two servants came from Old Hingham, landed and settled in New Hingham." Two other children, Rebecca and dJacob were born in America. Perhaps the inducement that led Mr Beal to select Hingham as a place of abode was that his wife Nazareth was the daughter of Edmund and Margaret Dewey Hobart, and consequently the sister of Rev Peter Hobart, the first minister of that town. Mr Hobart had chosen that place for his labors, a few years previous. Not long after his settlement in Hingham, he became a land owner, as may be inferred from the following taken from the town book of "grants and lands": Given unto John Beal for a house lot, six acres of land, butting upon the Town Street northward, and upon the common southward bounded with the land of Jenas Austin eastward, and with the land of Thomas Hobart westward. The site of the home lot can be easily pointed out, on the south side of the present [1956] South Street (which was the ancient Town Street) and west of Hersey Street, which was laid out through Mr Austin's original lot. On the thirteenth of March succeeding his arrival, Mr Beal was admitted to the freedom of Massachusetts Colony, by taking the customary freeman's oath, which he did at the same time with several of his fellow townsmen. In 1649, in company with Nicholas Jacob, he represented the town of Hingham in the Central Court of the Colony. Mr Beal lived to a good old age for under the date of 1 April 1688: Judge Sewall noted in his diary, "Father Beal of Hingham dies at 100," and David Hobart wrote under the same date "my Uncle John Beal died suddenly." He live 50 years in England and 50 years in America. All the sons of Mr Beal married and had children, as did also all the daughters, except the youngest, Rebecca, who died unmarried."
