My gr-gr-grandmother was Morning Glory Beal,(full blood Cherokee Indian) born prob. ca. 1800-1816, md. Robert Guthrie, Jr., Giles Co., Tn. One census record of her youngest son, my Gr-grandfather, Robert Landon Guthrie (b. 1832), says she was born in Mississippi; another says Alabama. The only census I have found her on is the 1830 census for Giles Co., Tn. and of course her husband, Robert Guthrie, Jr. was head of household and she is only listed in the age brackets, along with several of their children. Ca. 1839, she and her husband split up and the younger children were bound out. Robert Landon Guthrie was bound out to the William Newland family, also in Giles Co., Tn. in 1830 and 1840 but in 1850, this family, with Robert Landon Guthrie, are living in Springfield, Mo. Later he came to Arkansas. Morning Glory Beal had a sister Nancy Beal who md. John J. Morphis in Tennessee; they later came to Pope Co., Arkansas. There were several Beal families living in Giles Co., Tn. in 1830, 1840 and on but haven't been able to establish who were the parents of Morning Glory and Nancy Beal. Both Morning Glory and Nancy had sons named Thomas and both of them named daughters Lydia. There was a Thomas and a Lydia Beal in Giles Co. Does anyone know anything about this Beal family? (Was told that she walked on the Trail of Tears???) Betty G.McCollum
