-- [ From: Jackson H. Day * EMC.Ver #3.1a INTERNATIONAL ] -- Expanded recipient data: To: Carol \ Microsoft Network: (STARRYNIGHTS) Lisa Simms just called my attention that the Basil Beall family in my last note to Carol was Lisa's Basil Beall family. In the process of wondering why I hadn't picked this up, I discovered that the 1740-1760 file in my database was corrupted; fortunately I had a good copy on disk, and once I was looking at it, Lisa Simms' Basil Beall family showed up again. Also in the process, I got totally frustrated at how slowly Wordperfect 8 was running on my Pentium, and converted the files back to Wordperfect 5.1, which runs instantaneously. It's just that as a DOS program I can't get it to print through Windows 95.... Here's a total re-write of my earlier note to Carol: > This is _my_ Basil Beall you're talking about. Son of James m. Elizabeth > Pooley....if he died 1818 in Ohio Co., WV. You're listing his children, too. > > This Basil m. Maria Hunter. Check your database again and BGN;256, 302, 205, > 179. > > While I'd love a proven relationship to the Brooke's and Gaithers, I think > something's awry here. > > Lisa > Carol, It appears that your records confuse two Basils. There is a Basil, the son of Col. Samuel Beall, and that would give you all the Brooke ancestors. Unfortunately, your Basil's famly resembles Basil the son of James. Except for Basil's wife, where I have Maria, you have Harriet Gaither. Could Basil have been married twice? You may want to discuss directly with Lisa Simms, since each of you is descended from a different child of Basil. A number of high powered researchers for whom I have great respect have tried to figure out who James is the son of; so far, no luck. B-JAMES-1. Basil Beall, b. Fred Co ca 1753, eldest son of James [G1732]; d. Short Creek, Ohio Co VA/WV Mar 1818. m. Maria G1770. Move West. Within a year of father James' death in 1795, his family moved west. On 12 Apr 1796 Basil Beall, Ninian Beall and Samuel Beall of Frederick Co, "which Samuel is the eldest son of the said Basil Beall who was the eldest son of James Beall, deceased, conveyed to Martin Waltz, for £513/5 shillings, 40 a Boiling Spring and 50 a Mistaken Rival, "part of the tract heretofore conveyed by Fielder Gaunt to Matthias Pooley for 100 acres" plus 6 3/4 a Fathers Lecture. Grantors agreed "to warrant and defend Martin Waltz against any persons claiming any part thereof from or under James Beall and Zephaniah Beall. Signed by Basil, Ninian, James, and Samuel H. Beall; Mary wife of Ninian and __, wife of Basil, relinquished dower rights. (FCLR WR#14:183) "It is not clear why Basil and Samuel signed the deed or why James did when he was not a party. The brothers apparently had made some agreement among themselves. Basil himself had some rather valuable land. The same day the above deed was executed, 12 Apr 1796, Basil Beall executed two deeds selling...a total of 271 acres of the tract Castle Henry, 72 a. Lot 12 of the tract Fielderea, and 18 a of the tract Lambeth. His wife Maria relinquished her dower rights. (FCLR WR#14:187,190)62 Will.
