Trying to uncover the REAL connection here. See as follows: According to the book "A History of the WARMAN-WELLS, and Related Families" by Elroy Wilson Titus, it states the following on page 15. >From "Generations of Col. Nicholas Gassaway", by William Kenneth Rutherford and Anna Clay (Zimmerman) Rutherford, 1981, Page 107. 4 (2) ANNE GASSAWAY (Col. Nicholas (2) Thomas (1)), b. In 1670, Anne Arundel County, Maryland; d. In 1742. John WATKINS, Jr., son of John WATKINS, d. In 1697 before 27 February; m. Anne GASSAWAY in 1688, Anne Arundel county, Maryland. -------798. John WATKINS III, b. 15 Aug 1689; d. 1734 (m. Mary WARMAN, 1715) -------799. Nicholas WATKINS, b. 1691; d. 1770. -------800. Elizabeth WATKINS, b. 1693; m. Sam SMITH -------801. Gassaway WATKINS, b. 21 Mar. 1695; d. 1746 John WATKINS III, (8/15/1689-1734) Son of John, Jr. and Anne (Gassaway) WATKINS. B. Anne Arundel Co, MD m. Mary WARMAN, 1715. Mary WARMAN was a dau. Of Stephen ) and Hester (GASSAWAY) WARMAN, and was a descendent of Col. Ninian BEALL, so stated in two references. Had seven children: John; Stephen; Nicholas; Hester (WATKINS) Lane; Jane (WATKINS) SMITH; Sarah (WATKINS) KEENE; and Frances (WATKINS) DORSEY. ========= As much as I dug, I just couldn't PROVE ANY connection of Mary WARMAN and Col. Ninian BEALL. The ONLY connection I can find to Col. Ninian BEALL is thru the WATKINS family and that is well documented. I believe there are some serious mistakes in some of the books. See also from the book by Elroy Wilson Titus in his "revised" booklet - page 2: "BEALL, Col. Ninian (ca 1625-1717) 6-great grandfather of Rev. Clemmer WARMAN. B. Scotland, in Fifeshire or near Edinburgh. Fought against Cromwell at Dunbar; captured and transported to Calvert county, MD in 1655. For services to the colonial government of Maryland was granted large tracts of land, extending over several counties, particularly in Calvert and Princes George counties. There are two references: (1) at page 412, "Founders of Anne Arundel and Howard Counties", by J.D. Warfield, A.M., 1905, we read: "John WATKINS and Mary WARMAN were married in 1715. She (NOTE: I think this is a misprint and should be "HE" not SHE"???), was a descendent of Ninian BEALE and held an estate in Prince Georges county," and (2) on page 107, "Generations of Col. Nicholas GASSAWAY," by the Rutherfords, 1981, we find "John WATKINS married Mary WARMAN, a descendent of Ninian BEALE." (NOTE: I think that this reads in actuallity - John WATKINS was a descendent of Ninian BEALE!) ====== In the WARMAN genealogy, it doesn't change anything about the mothers of the Warman children etc. but only breaks any ties of WARMAN and BEALL, except through the WATKINS connection. The WARMAN family has been speculating that Col., Ninian BEALL was the father of Sarah, the wife of Francis WATTS who sere the grandparents of Mary WARMAN who married John WATKINS. However, I believe we should look further for the "father of Sarah", as none of the Sarah BEALLS really can be proved to be married to Francis WATTS - as far as I can find. Can anyone clear this up, or at least agree with me? Beverly Bates tawankabev@aol.com b_bates@efn.org
