Checking to see if Beall listing is still working. Haven't seen anything on my computer and wonder if I got bounced. Shirley Jennings Weber ancestor---Alexander--James/Mary Edmonston--Allen/Ann Nichols--Thomas Allen/Susannah Beddo/---Samuel/Francis Pepper
Sarah Beal married William Francis Smith. In 1845, they had a daughter Edith Elizabeth Smith in Morgan County, OH. I would estimate that Sarah Beal was probably born around 1810-1820. Who were the parents of Sarah Beal? Hi, I'm asking for a consensus of opinion, of those of you who might have one, of who the father of William Beall (b. 1710) I've also seen (b. 1700) might have been. This is the William that married Sarah Magruder (b. 1713) the daughter of Ninian Magruder and Elizabeth Brewer, and they had ten children. However, I've also seen Sarah Magruder's husband as Alexander Beall and a listing of seventeen children. Am I the only one confused with this? Any comments, facts, or opinions would be greatly appreciated. In other words, - help! Thank you, Dale Patterson Norton750@aol.com

Jean, Your comment on including dates & locations is so true! There are many listings I have ignored because people do not include all pertinent information they have when they make an inquiry or request. On others I have looked up considerable data & forwarded it only to be told it was the wrong family or person because I had no facts to narrow the search. It is true that we have many repeats on names because it has been a naming English & European tradition ! Glad you made the comment! Happy Hunting! Chuck
Am looking for info on a Betsey ( nickname ? ) Beall m. to Ignatius Cambron in Wash. Co. KY in 1806. They had 2 sons Henry Hamilton Cambern ( was name change by sons) m. to Emily Margaret Martyn in Perry Co. IN., and James Bascom Cambern died in indian raid in Jack Co. TX. The family papers I have show her as being a Sarah (Sallie) Beall. A letter from a Kutch family member refers to her father as being a Major Bell. The last name spelling was interchanged from Beall to Bell all the time. After the death of Ignatius in 1822, she was said to have stayed in IN. with her son Henry Hamilton Cambern and then married a man by the name of Hurt (Hurd?). Have not been able to trace this Beall except for the marriage record of a Betsey and my 4th gr-grandfather Ignatius Cambron. If anyone cane help me find this Beall woman I would appreciate any info received. Thank you, Connie (Cambern) White
Seeking data on the following, to establish linkage and search ascending surnames, particularly Beal and Lovelace. Harvey Beal who married Sarah Loveless Dau Elizabeth Beal who mar a Mr Holloway Dau Harriet Hollowayt who mar Jasper N. Hanner Dau Mary Belle Hanner who mar Thomas James Smith, Sr. I believe the locations to be VA, MD, KA and KY. Thanks, Ron Yielding Palm Springs, CA
Hi Folks! I really enjoy this list even though I do not have much I can add, I read every message. I would like to comment that if you will include dates and locations for your people Please....it would help me a lot. Sometimes names look familiar but with no idea of the time period or the place where the people were living, I have no idea if the familiar ring is just the Beall love of reusing names or if perhaps I have run into something about that person. I'm afraid I'm not so organized that I can look through my "stuff" just on a name. :-) Well, this was just a thought...... Jean
Hi Ralph, Thanks for the corrections. I knew my Ning line was iffy. I got Ning's children from Br~derbund WFT Vol. 1, Ed. 1, Tree #0324. You can find the researcher attached to the tree at Broderbund's Web site...I haven't gotten that far yet. Truth is, it's one of the few Broderbund trees I imported. Most of the other Beall trees from the World Family Tree CD-ROMs did nothing but confuse me. To be fair, I think I hooked Ning up to Josias....believe the WFT researcher started with Ning. And of course, now that I look at my research notes, your letter to the Beall Genealogical News is listed (p 44) along with Joanne Del Vecchio's posting (p 308)...guess I neglected to update my database. Apologies for posting the bad info...and for not expressing the dubious nature of my data more carefully. I'm even more red-faced because I got a correction from Jack Day last year about this same information. I'll forward those emails because there is a gent writing a Stull family history. Sincerely, Lisa
HI! I am looking for information on the BELL family. -- [ From: Jackson H. Day * EMC.Ver #2.5.3 ] -- Doug Beal asks if he is on the wrong list. Perhaps not. Several of my untraced lines are supposedly Scottish but could be German. My William Beall's Alexander witnessed weddings in the Reformed church in Frederick --between the departure of loyalist Anglican clergy in 1776 and the Methodist Revival the last decade of the 1700s, the German churches were the only show in town in some areas. But maybe he was a Buhl or Biehl of Bihl. If they were in Maryland before 1800, I put them all in my database. Some of my Walkers, another Scottish name, could have been Wachers, from Germany, of whom I have some records. Jack Day
-- [ From: Jackson H. Day * EMC.Ver #2.5.3 ] -- Rita (pvmeistrel@aol.com) disagrees with the lineage I gave involving Thomas and Verlinda Beall. With this family, disagreement should be the norm since there is such a confusion of names! What follows below is my database entries for these two--and for another Thomas who married another Verlinda, both couples being contemporaries. In checking the DB , I see I have an entry for Thomas of Col. Samuel which shows a daughter Elizabeth m. Aza. So the debate goes right into my DB and I also note that I didn't put down any sources for the info, which is such a pain at the time, but it makes it less useful now. So if you've got reliable sources on this that can prove the relationship one way or the other, that will improve my DB immensely. Candee, I got your note and the 35 page descendant chart. I'm pleased that there are a lot of notes. I will be looking through it to see if there are any original sources that prove anything different than I already have. As you see from these entries, there are a lot of sources which often conflict. When one can get original records, deeds, wills and the like, that is pure gold because it cuts through the question of "who can you believe." I do most of my stuff in the wee hours based on others' original research, so I'm willing to back off on something the minute someone can provide a will or deed that indicates a different line. One author who has no credibility with me, however, is the classic Fielder M. M. Beall (the "FMMB" in my notes. There are just too many times where if he didn't have the data, he just made it up -- and, based on later discoveries of real facts, he made it up wrong. Now when you read his book, you often can't tell what is real and what is made up. So it's a good starting place, but mark everything you get from FMMB with his initials, and sooner or later, you'll find reason to throw some of it out. There are excellent authors writing in Beall Genealogical News. My name codes, by the way, are "added digit", e.g. B-ALEX-239 is the ninth child of the third child of the second child of Alexander Bell of Scotland. Obviously, if I put the names of the child in the wrong order , then the codes come out not exactly right! B-ALEX-239. Verlinda Beall, (Violinda Beall) b. 1740 (age 36 in Census of 1776; Brumbaugh I:187), youngest dau of John [1688] of Alexander and if b. 1740, b. 2 years before his death in 1742. FMMB(205) has birth year as 1731, however this conflicts with Census year and has her marrying Thomas Beall, b. 1744 and 15 years her junior. In 1764 m. Thomas Beall (B-NIN-11c) b. 1740 (age 36 in Census of 1776), son of Samuel Beall (Heterick IV:21). FMMB has Verlinda Beall marrying her nephew Thomas (B-ALEX-231-5/1744), son of her brother Samuel (B-ALEX- 231/1713), however it makes more sense that Verlinda's nephew Thomas married Verlinda, daughter of Josiah (B-ALEX-232/1715, brother to Verlinda and Samuel, thus was a marriage of first cousins. (+B-NIN- 11c/1744) B-NIN-11c. Captain Thomas Beall, b. 1744 (FMMB: ) of Gen'l Samuel [1706] of Ninian Jr, [1669] b. N. W. Hundred, Fred Co. (Heterick, IV:21) . Served in Revol. in Col. Moses Rawling's Regiment, which was attached to 1st MD Regt, 1 Jul 1776. ( Alice Norris Parran, Register of Maryland's Heraldic Families, 1938, pp. 86-88. ) Or possibly same Thomas Beall, 2d Lt of Bracco's Independent Maryland Company, 27 Aug 1776; 1 Lt, 2d Maryland, 10 Dec 1776; resigned 17 apr 1777. (Heitman, F. B., Historical Register of Officers of the Continental Army during the War of the Revolution April 1775 to December 1783.) Washington, DC: W. H. Lowdermilk & Co, 1893, p. 79 ) Marriage. In 1764 m Verlinda Beall (B -ALEX-239), b. 1731, of John of Alexander. FMMB:205 has Verlinda m. her nephew Thomas (B-ALEX-231-5/1744), son of Col. Samuel Beall, Jr. [9 children]. The Census of 1776 for Lower Potomack Hundred shows Thomas of Samuel (age 36 = 1740; Brumbaugh:181) and Violinda (age 36 = 1740; Brumbaugh:187) Excluding a Henry Beall, age 28, and a Josiah, age 18, both of whom would be too old to be the children of Thomas and Violinda, the remaining children who are not children of Thomas' first cousin Col. George Beall, Jr (B-NIN-91/1729) would be as follows. The presence of an Alexander--not a common name in the Ninian group, would be explained by Violinda's status as a member of the Alexander group: 1. Eleanor (age 10 = 1766) (+) 2. Lucy (age 9 = 1767) (+) 3. Alexander (age 8 = 1768) (+) 4. Josiah (age 6 = 1770) (+) 5. Anne (age 5 = 1771) (+) 6. Elizabeth (age 4 = 1772) Allegany County. Possibly same Thomas Beall, of Samuel, b. before 1755, in Allegany Co, Census of 1800 with 3 males 16-26 (b. 1774-1784), and 1 female 16-26 (b. 1774-1784), 1 26-45 (b. 1755-1774); 10 slaves. Acc to Allegany County Equity Court Case of Dec 15, 1827, Thomas Beall of Samuel made will and died 1823 leaving son Isaac as executor, who, having sold real estate and distribruted property without taking out letters testimentary, compelling creditors to institute court cases, first June 13 1825 and then in 1827 (BGN:259). Equity cases listed all known descendents of Thomas Beall of Samuel, and indicated out of state residence where applicable. Roberta Hull (BGN:254, March 1996), has the following children for Thomas Beall, in the order of the equity case which places males first and females second: 1. Isaac, b. ca 1777 (+B-ALEX-231-93/G1776) 2. John Brooke, b. 1769 (+B-NIN-11c-7/1769) 3. Josiah, b. 1770 (+B-NIN-11c-4/1770) 4. Elizabeth, b. 1772 m. Asa Brooke Beall of Richard (+B-ALEX-231- 36/1774) 5. Eleanor, b. 1765 (+B-NIN-11c-1/1766) 6. Lucy, b. 1767 (+B-NIN-11c-2/1767) 7. Priscilla, d. aft 1827, m. 1812 Walter Slicer 8. Nancy, b. 1773 (+B-NIN-11c-8/1773) Integrating Roberta Hull's list, which follows the 1827 equity case, with the Census of 1776 list, gives us the following listing: 1. Eleanor, b. 1766 (+) 2. Lucy, b. 1767 (+) 3. Alexander, b. 1768, possibly deceased by 1823 4. Josiah, b. 1770 (+) 5. Anne (Nancy), b. 1771 (+) 6. Elizabeth, b. 1772) m. Asa Brooke Beall of Richard (+B-ALEX-231- 36/1774) 7. Isaac, b. ca 1777 (+) 8. John Brooke, b. G1779 (+) 9. Priscilla, b. G1781, (+) B-ALEX-231-5 Thomas Beall, b. Wash Co 1744 of Col Samuel Beall Jr [1713 ] of John [1688]. m. his first cousin Verlinda Beall (B-ALEX-232- 2/G1743) of Josias. 11 Feb 1786 Thos Beall of Wash Co sells to Dickeson Simkins for 10 Walnut Bottom. Verlinda, wife, waives dower. (Hall of Records, Annapolis, E:8) Caution: Information overlap with B-NIN- 11c/1744. 1807 will of his cousin B-ALEX-232-3 Josiah Beall, b. G1745, who was also brother to Thomas' wife Verlinda, lists Thomas Beal's children: 1. John Brooks 2. Josiah 3. Isaac 4. Ann, m. John Conrad Beaty 5. Elizabeth, m. Aza Beal (+B-ALEX-231-36/1774) 6. Lucy, m. English 7. Priscilla 8. Eleanor, m. Beaty. She was deceased in 1807 and her children were mentioned: William Thomas, Otto, Lewis and Sonia. B-ALEX-232 Josias Beall, b. 1715, d. 1768, of John [1688] of Alexander [1649]. Lived in area now Montgomery County. Parran has this Josiah as Josiah of John of Thomas of Col. Ninian, however Thomas, b. 1682 (B-NIN- 6) of Ninian died without issue. FMMB and other authors confuse this Josiah with Josiah who m. G1736 Millicent Bradley, dau of Robert Bradley , had 9 children and d. 1805 and whose children at the death of Millicent (Apr 21, 1772) are listed in Piscataway Parish Records; however Josiah the husband of Millicent lived in an area of PG County which remained so, while Josiah of John lived in an area which became Frederick Co, then Montgomery. (McLean, p. 18) Compare also with Josiah b 1725 & Josiah b. 1743. 1741 John & Verlinda Beall deeded to son Josiah 300 acres of Easie Purchase, located near present day Ashton; land stayed in family until 11 years following Josiah's death in 1768 when Thaddeus was in North Carolina. 1748 Josiah was officer in Captain George Beall's Troop of Horse, "an authorized organization of militia charged with the responsibility, among other things, for maintenance of law and protection of inhabitants from Indian thievery and raids. Frequently appointed vestryman of Prince George's Parish from 1748 thru 1763. Appointed by Maryland Assembly as Associate Justice and Commissioner of Frederick County various years 1749 thru death in 1768 (or 1769. Kathleen Beall Adams, Maryland Heritage. p. 66. ). Also Member of the Lower House of Maryland Assembly for Frederick County, various years, 1754-1761. (McLean, p. 19). Deceased by 21 Nov 1770 when Thaddeus Beall administrator of his estate (Heterick I:33) (FMMB has nine children) Heterick (I:33) says unable to locate references to children other than Verlinda and Josiah. 1. Many "double-L" Bealls are related to a Ninian Beall. I found 21 in my database and thought I'd share them. My sources are the Beall Genealogical News, Jack Day's database, correspondence with my WV Beall relatives and, for a couple, the Broderbund CD-ROMs. Comments, additions and corrections are very welcome-- I have no personal attachment to the information...just compile what I find. I am searching for any information on Robert Beale (1541-1601) In 1572, Beale succeeded Robert Monsen as the member of Parliament for Totnes, in the capacity he was appointed cleck to Queen Elizabeth's Privy Council and held this position for many years. Robert was made to carry the death warrant to Fotheringay and to perform the ghastly duty of reading it aloud in the hall of the castle that Mary Stuart, Queen of Scots, was to be executed. He was an eye witness and wrote an account entitled "The Order and Manner of the Execution of Mary, Queen of Scots, February 8, 1587." Anyone having any information about this Beale, please contact me.
