I am interested in obtaining information about two individuals who are directly related to me. The first individual is my great-great-great-grandfather Frank Beal. He came from London, England around 1840 to Oneida County with two other brothers. Frank married a woman whose name was Sophia Susanna Boyer. Sophia migrated with her family from London, England around 1823 when she was about 13 years old. A Family Bible states that the couple was married in Waterville, Oneida County, New York around 1840 or later. Their first daughter, Frances Beal, was born in New York State on 14 Aug 1842. She may have been baptized in one of the churches in the area. The family later moved to Lucas County, Ohio around 1844. A summary of the family's birth years (approximate) are as follows: Parents Frank Beal (b. Jun 1812, London?, d. Providence, OH) Sophia Susannah Boyer (Beyer or Bayer) (b. Aug 1812, London, d. 1900, OH) Children: Frances Beal (1842, NY) Frank F. Beal (b. 1845, OH) John Alexander Beal (b. Sep 1846, OH) Through research and phone calling, I may have found Frank's brothers. >From a 1850 census from Sangerfield, NY, a "Charles Beal" is listed. He was from London, England and married "Charlotte," an American from New York State. I do not know her maiden name. The family is not listed in Sangerfield later than 1855. From the ages of the parents and children, I assume that Charles came from London, England around 1840-1843 and married in Sangerfield about 1845-6. A summary of the parent's and children's names, along with their approximate birth years are listed as follows: Parents Children Charles Beal (1823) Mariah (1846-7) Charlotte (1824) Harriet (1848) Charlotte (April/May 1850) Additionally, another BEAL from Bridgewater, NY may have been related to Frank. His name was James BEAL. He was born in Sussex, ENG around 1821. He came to America in 1841 and married Ann Marie from Kent England. James' father may have been named John Beal. James was fairly wealthy and owned a large farm in Bridgewater, NY. His children were Rachael(b. 1844), Frederick (b. 1847), and Mary (b. 1848). He had other children also. I am attempting to relate these brothers to Frank or with some connections back to England. Thank you! Jared <jsommer@psn.net>

To all: There's a picture of the silver communion set given by Ninian Beall to Rev. Hugh Conn of the Bladensburg Presbyterian Church at this url http://www.monmouth.com/~rryan/commune.htm Kathi Jones Hudson khudson@softspikes.com
Dennis Bell, I've never found any hard evidence about actual arrival in Barbados. I've seen other family names that may have gone there. I need to research Richard Hall, who I undrstand purchased Ninian's labors. His dau Elizabeth m. another of my anc Richard Evans. I believe Richard to have been Welsh. Charlie Marck
-- [ From: Jackson H. Day * EMC.Ver #2.5.3 ] -- Charles Marck's recent note contained updated information--the communion service Ninian donated being extant much more recently than I had known- -and I've updated my DB entry as follows: Presbyterian Church. Ninian was first Presbyterian elder in North America; generously gave land to church near what is now Upper Marlboro. This land was on Largo, which he deeded to his son Ninian Jr (B-NIN-1) prior to his son's death in 1710-1711 (Major, 215). In 1707 gave communion service, parts of which still existed in 1935, and in 1976, the church now being the Hyattsville Presbyterian Church. (Charles F. Stein, History of Calvert Co., MD, By the author, 1976). Deponent in various court cases in PG Co, 1702-1715 (Ref PC:492, 502, 625, 573, 750, 875; PL:42, 49, 54, 274; Peden:10)
Hello folks: Hoping there's somebody out there with some expertise on the transport of Scots across the Atlantic to Barbados and Maryland in the middle 1600s. Specifically. I'm trying to find out exactly how and whenNinian Beall (born in Lower Largo, Fife in 1625, son of Dr. James Bell) made it across to the Americas. Ninian was a cornetist fighting for General David Leslie's Scottish Royalist cavalry when captured at the Battle of Dunbar, Sept. 3, 1650. He was one of 5,000 Scottish prisoners marched south to Durham, England by the New Model Army for imprisonment in Durham Cathedral (only 1,400 survived the march and the imprisonment). As far as I've been able to determine, Ninian was transported to Barbados in late 1650 or early 1651 from Durham or environs or possibly from Newcastle, where surviving Scottish officers were taken in late October of 1651. He was an indentured POW for eight years and probably ended up cutting sugar cane for a time there. He was also probably one of the 1,500 or so indentured "volunteers" drafted in Barbados and St. Kitts by the Cromwellians to aid the regular army in the attack on Hispaniola and later Jamaica. I believe Ninian wangled his way north as a result of his Caribbean service ,to Maryland in 1656, 1657 or early 1658. The only hint I have is that he might have been transported by a man named James Sinkler, who may have been a ship's captain. The problem is that I haven't been able to find any passengers' lists anywhere covering the two time periods. Is there anybody whose hobby has been following the indentured Bealls, Bells and other Scots from Dunbar and the Battle of Worcester a year later? Has anybody got some ideas on where I might be able to latch onto the appropriate ship names and passenger lists? The passenger lists I've checked so far show some huge gaps in the 1650s. I need all the help I can get. Many thanks. dennis bell (of the Largo, Fife Bells) burnaby bc Canada
Recently the web address for the government office with land patent records for the Eastern United States appeared on one of the News Groups! It may help you find the patent onthe land you have been discussing! It follows: http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/
Dave, I have that referenced to"History of Calvert Co MD"-Charle F. Stein, Author & Publisher, 1976. Described as the land at Upper Marlboro, where the first Presbyterian Church was built. Ninian gave this church a Communion silver, which was still there in 1976. The Church now being the Hyattsville Presbyterian Church. Being unfamiliar with the area, but a desc. of both Ninian and contemporary Alexander Beall such items inteest me. Charlie

The area became known as the Scot's 100. At one time I ran across a book in a library showing the tracts that the various Scots settled. I cannot recall the title..I did make a copy of the map in the book, and have it somewhere among my papers. My ancestor, William Masters Sr., eventually acquired a large area of land in what is now SW Washington DC and part of Prince Georges County in the early 1700's. Dave Masters dmasters@mastnet.net

HI ALL (and Steve) I just today received my Bowie book (can be any of your family name books) from Halbert's in Bath, OH. Well, for one, it does list every Bowie on the Census records in order by state (1790-1910), first name, County, Locality, Roll number (Census), Page & No, which if anyone hasn't bought the $200.00 worth of CD's from Family Treemaker, this would be a great tool in finding all your kin on the Census records. For the time it has taken me to write down ALL my Bowie's & go to the library & copy the pages, this book would have saved me hours of searching the FTM Census CD's. They also give some pretty interesting facts, too. Like where the Bowie's were in the US (Population schedules) during the different Census years. Then, all the addresses of every Bowie in the US (which now, yes, we can get this on the web, but this was probably an invaluable tool before we could access the web), and NOW I have a full printout of everyone, but no phone numbers. They give Surname Registers in the US, Reunion Committees, Genealogical Socieities, Major Research Libraries, and Immigration Research Centers, all with addresses & phone numbers. Several stories are included like what happpened during the Migration West ! All in all... I find the $41.36 (with postage & handling) was money pretty- well spent, as I have ALL my Bowie's organized into one book, with quite a bunch of research info ALSO organized into one book. I don't know anywhere that stated this was a leather-bound book, as it is a paperback, which I expected when I ordered it. So, it's not a huge book on Bowie's, but I'm happy with it, as it DOES finally organize all my Bowie info in one place.... Laurie Ann (Kozelka) Bieber Sarasota, FL =========================== In a message dated 98-04-23 23:48:26 EDT, you write: << >.I just got a brochure from a publisher in Bath, Ohio,< To All... Save your money. The Eastman Newsletter ran a series of articles on Halberts two or three years ago. They have been in trouble with the Post Office for fraudulant advertising and are at it again with very carefully written mailouts. Basically what you get is a listing of every Beall, (or Baskin, or Kraus, or ...) in the U.S. Also there is some general background on people through history with the same name, but no genealogical content at all. In fact, the info concerning the area where the Eastman's settled, he says, is not even true. Also, the "leather grained cover" or however it's worded is, I believe, cardboard or something with a "grain" embossed into it. (It's been a while since I read the article). There seems to be a rash of these mailings lately, since I've been asked twice already in person. My rule of thumb: send your money to Bath, and you'll wind up taking one. (OK, it's late, but it seemed funny at the time) Steve Kraus >>

I goofed-- the email address for the Maryland Marriages is <A HREF="http://www.mdarchives.state.md.us/msa/refserv/stagser/ssu1500/html/ss u1527.html#list">Marriage References - Maryland State Archives</A> Then Just type in "B" for Beall and there they are: or if you want I will print them all out for you now--- The introduction explains that the date is not always the marriage date but is just a date that is refered to in a court document which states the couple are living as man and wife at that time in history. So ithey have differentiated the two dates by the following: the actual marriage date is denoted: m. ----date------ and the other is : m. by ----date-----. So John Beall and Verlinda Magruder did marry 1712, and the 1736 date referrenced an administration record that can be found in the Md. archives. Hello, Does anyone know of Elizabeth Beall (born abt 1660) who married Thomas Dryden. Their daughter Elinor Dryden married my ancestor George Moore of Prince George's County Maryland. I would like more information on this particular Beall family. I believe Elizabeth's father was Thomas "The Loving Immigrant" Beall who married Elizabeth Lee.in mid 1600's. Jeff Moore

I have that John Beall married Verlinda Magruder, daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth(Beall) Magruder in 1712 in Prince Geo. County, Maryland-- their first child, Samuel Beall Jr. was born in 1713. Does anyone have any information to help me with this contradiction. Candee
