    1. [BEALL-L] Bells in Fife
    2. Dennis
    3. Hi folks: I've just obtained a complete list of all Bells born/christened in Fife from around 1650 thru to 1865, originating in Scotland's Old Parish Records. There are about 2,750 births and christenings, and roughly 4,500 names of parents. If you're hunting for a Bell from Fife in the OPRs, send me the given name, rough birth date and I'll take a look. There are no Bealls there, and no solid connections to Col. Ninian, as far as I can make out. The OPRs start up just a tad after he left town. But if you trace back to Largo, I've got the Bells. 1. [BEALL-L] Hello....possible cousins
    2. Well Hello ALL, My name is Nancy Norstrom Ryerson and I have been doing genealogy for only 6 years. Two main families have totally aludated me.....Cromer and Beal. I'm hoping you can help. I checked out many Beal sites on the wed and looked at every Beal/Beall/Bell genealogy written. Well, at least those at our state library and Salt Lake City. I have not found any reference to my two Beal family members. So you are my last hope. If you guys don't know these people, well they where "hatched?" This is ALL I know.....please help! Heity Beal, daughter of Sebasian Beal married Jacob Cromer 1844; most likely in Penn. She died February 25, 1899, in Ill. Jacob Cromer was born January 6, 1821, in Franklin Co. Penn. Died June 21, 1891, in Will County, Ill. Son of George and Mary Rummel Cromer. They had 15 children. First is my GGG-Grandfather George Washington Cromer. Well, that's it.........every thing I know about the Beal's and this information is only pasted down through family. Please inform me if you know these Beal's or not. Thank You Nancy

I believe I have located my Robert Beall in Hancock Co IL in 1840 census record. he is the only Beall listed in census index for that county so no help there. He does have one additional adult male aged 20 to 30, one female aged 10-15 and another male aged 10-15 living with him. They may be his or his wifes family members. If anyone is interested. There is also a Robert Beall in 1830 Morgan Co IL census but he is 50-60 years of age and would be to old to be the Robert you mention above. There are four other Beall families in 1830 Morgan Co census: Robert aged 50-60 00011001 00100001 Thomas aged 30-40 100001 100001 Richard aged 20-30 00011 210110001 Arthur aged 20-30 20001 00001 John aged 70-80 2011000001 011001

    1. [BEALL-L] Alert re: Col. Ninian's plaque
    2. Dennis
    3. Hi folks: I'm hearing that the bronze plaque erected in 1910 to the memory of Col. Ninian Beall has gone missing in the past few months. The plaque was erected on a large oval rock, symbolic of Scotland’s Rock of Dumbarton, in front of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Georgetown, at 3240 “O” Street N.W. It is the only public memorial to him anywhere in the world, and the inscription on the plaque reads: "Colonel Ninian Beall, born Scotland 1625 died Maryland 1717, patentee of the Rock of Dumbarton; Member of the House of Burgesses; Commander in Chief of the Provincial Forces of Maryland. In grateful recognition of his services “upon all Incursions and Disturbances of Neighboring Indians” the Maryland Assembly of 1699 passed an “Act of Gratitude.” This memorial erected by the Society of Colonial Wars in the District of Columbia, 1910." Caleb Clark Magruder delivered a speech on the steps of the church, dedicating the memorial on Sunday, Oct. 30, 1910. I have no idea what became of the plaque. Nor do I know if it was stolen by vandals or removed by church authorities. But I sure hope that a few of you Bealls in Maryland and the D.C. area can find out and let the rest of his realtives know, since this is the only memorial of any kind to our man. 1. [BEALL-L] Re: Ninian Beall's boys
    2. Dennis, While preparing for a trip to Maryland and D.C. in 1996, we discovered a "Beall Burying Ground" was shown in Georgetown on a mapping program we have, Compton's Complete Street Atlas. We went around the block several times, but found nothing and no one to ask. Being short of time, we gave up on this quest. On the map, the burying ground is located nearest N Street between 30th and 31st. It appears to be set back a little from N Street, as if it were in back or to the side of the residence. I have no answer to your question about the tombstones, but your post definitely caught my attention. We did locate the Ninian Beall memorial at St. John's, though I thought for a while we were not going to find that either. Nell Whittington NellnTexas@aol.com

    3. Hi folks: I came across the following in the Pennsylvania Magazine, Vol. XXI Page 507, “Notes and Queries,” published by the Historical Society of Pennsylvania in 1897, written by Thomas Willing Balch: ----------------- BEALL--In the Presbyterian graveyard at Georgetown, District of Columbia, are buried the founder of Georgetown, his wife, and one of their sons, George. The inscriptions are as follows: “Here lieth Colonel George Beall who departed this Life March 15 1780 Aged 85 years.” “Here Lieth the Body of Elizabeth Beall the wife of Colonel George Beall who departed this Life October the 2nd: 1748 Aged about 49 years.” “Sacred to the Memory of Colonel George Beall. He was born in George Town on the 26th day of February 1729. He died October 15th 1807 in the 79th Year of his Age. He lived respected and died lamented.” Originally they were interred in their own burying ground alongside their house, which still stands upon the present N Street, near Thirty-first Street; the bodies were removed to the present site more than 25 years ago. My father copied the inscriptions before the tombs were removed from the family burying ground. Today the tomb of the first Colonel George Beall is broken and but little of the inscription remains; the other two inscriptions are perfectly legiible. The wife of the first Colonel George Beall, a son of Colonel Ninian Beall, was Elizabeth Brooke; and the wife of their son, the second Colonel George Beall, was Elizabeth Magruder (originally McGregor). I should much like to know something more about these two Elizabeths. THOMAS WILLING BALCH. ------ All ofwhich begs the question: what became of those tombstones and inscriptions? Has anybody out there any info on them? Dennis Bell (of the Largo, Fife Bells) Burnaby, B.C. Canada
