    2. Steve Aberle
    3. Anyone have Matthew Beale (b. 13 Apr 1713, England) in their records? He was married (first) to Hannah Cogswell (b. 13 Apr 1719, Ipswich, MA; d. 1776). They resided in New Preston, CT and had 6 children. He was married (second) in 1777 to Hannah Sweezey. Matthew and Hannah (Cogswell) Beale are my 5g-grandparents and I would greatly appreciate any info. Thanks, Steve

    1. [BEALL-L] Sarah Beall
    2. MR JACKSON H DAY
    3. -- [ From: Jackson H. Day * EMC.Ver #3.1a INTERNATIONAL ] -- Greg Nelson has done a good job of debunking some of the erroneous accounts which show Sarah Beall, sister of Mary, as a daughter of Ninian Beall. There certainly is confusion because Ninian called most Scotsmen , and certainly all Bealls, his kinfolk. But without a defined relationship of one sort or another. It's also confused by the fact that Sarah and Mary knew and admired Ninian, had been brought over as part of Ninian's efforts to settle his kinfolk in Maryland. However one additional factor that Greg didn't mention seals the issue as far as I'm concerned. Sarah Beall and her husband Samual Magruder had a daughter, Elizabeth Magruder. This daughter, Elizabeth Magruder, married Ninian Beall, Jr, son of Colonel Ninian. If Sarah were in fact Ninian's daughter, we would then have a marriage between Ninian's son Ninian and his granddaughter Elizabeth. Most accounts have Ninian as a strict Presbyterian. To my knowledge, Presbyterians have never encouraged that sort of relationship! Jack Day

The wills of both couples establish conclusively that Sarah Beall was the sister of Mary Beall, who married John Pottenger. That Mary Beall never has been considered a daughter of Ninian. He had a daughter Mary, but she married a Hamilton. The two Beall sisters were supposedly included in a group of Scottish Presbyterians who were brought over by Ninian. There were 200 of them, and so far I have not found a list of the passengers. I am descended from Mary. There were later Magruders who married into Ninian's family, and many of them are his descendants, but not through Sarah Beall. Greg Nelson --part0_912646377_boundary--

    2. ACrowell
    3. I'm looking for information about Alice BEAL, who was born 11-2-1739 (perhaps baptised 11-4-1739) in Hingham, MA. She was the daughter of Stephen Beal (b. 9-16-1707 Hingham) and Alice CROCKER (b. Sept. 1712 Barnstable). Per the genealogies contained in a history of Hingham, I believe Stephen Beal's line is Stephen4, John3, Jeremiah2, John1. Is anyone interested in these Beals of Hingham? My interest lies in my search for the Alice BEAL who married Elkanah ANDREWS 8-13-1757 in Dighton, Bristol Co., MA. I'm hoping this might be the one... Any help would be appreciated-- Andrea Crowell also: 75330.517@compuserve.com

    2. Trying to uncover the REAL connection here. See as follows: According to the book "A History of the WARMAN-WELLS, and Related Families" by Elroy Wilson Titus, it states the following on page 15. >From "Generations of Col. Nicholas Gassaway", by William Kenneth Rutherford and Anna Clay (Zimmerman) Rutherford, 1981, Page 107. 4 (2) ANNE GASSAWAY (Col. Nicholas (2) Thomas (1)), b. In 1670, Anne Arundel County, Maryland; d. In 1742. John WATKINS, Jr., son of John WATKINS, d. In 1697 before 27 February; m. Anne GASSAWAY in 1688, Anne Arundel county, Maryland. -------798. John WATKINS III, b. 15 Aug 1689; d. 1734 (m. Mary WARMAN, 1715) -------799. Nicholas WATKINS, b. 1691; d. 1770. -------800. Elizabeth WATKINS, b. 1693; m. Sam SMITH -------801. Gassaway WATKINS, b. 21 Mar. 1695; d. 1746 John WATKINS III, (8/15/1689-1734) Son of John, Jr. and Anne (Gassaway) WATKINS. B. Anne Arundel Co, MD m. Mary WARMAN, 1715. Mary WARMAN was a dau. Of Stephen ) and Hester (GASSAWAY) WARMAN, and was a descendent of Col. Ninian BEALL, so stated in two references. Had seven children: John; Stephen; Nicholas; Hester (WATKINS) Lane; Jane (WATKINS) SMITH; Sarah (WATKINS) KEENE; and Frances (WATKINS) DORSEY. ========= As much as I dug, I just couldn't PROVE ANY connection of Mary WARMAN and Col. Ninian BEALL. The ONLY connection I can find to Col. Ninian BEALL is thru the WATKINS family and that is well documented. I believe there are some serious mistakes in some of the books. See also from the book by Elroy Wilson Titus in his "revised" booklet - page 2: "BEALL, Col. Ninian (ca 1625-1717) 6-great grandfather of Rev. Clemmer WARMAN. B. Scotland, in Fifeshire or near Edinburgh. Fought against Cromwell at Dunbar; captured and transported to Calvert county, MD in 1655. For services to the colonial government of Maryland was granted large tracts of land, extending over several counties, particularly in Calvert and Princes George counties. There are two references: (1) at page 412, "Founders of Anne Arundel and Howard Counties", by J.D. Warfield, A.M., 1905, we read: "John WATKINS and Mary WARMAN were married in 1715. She (NOTE: I think this is a misprint and should be "HE" not SHE"???), was a descendent of Ninian BEALE and held an estate in Prince Georges county," and (2) on page 107, "Generations of Col. Nicholas GASSAWAY," by the Rutherfords, 1981, we find "John WATKINS married Mary WARMAN, a descendent of Ninian BEALE." (NOTE: I think that this reads in actuallity - John WATKINS was a descendent of Ninian BEALE!) ====== In the WARMAN genealogy, it doesn't change anything about the mothers of the Warman children etc. but only breaks any ties of WARMAN and BEALL, except through the WATKINS connection. The WARMAN family has been speculating that Col., Ninian BEALL was the father of Sarah, the wife of Francis WATTS who sere the grandparents of Mary WARMAN who married John WATKINS. However, I believe we should look further for the "father of Sarah", as none of the Sarah BEALLS really can be proved to be married to Francis WATTS - as far as I can find. Can anyone clear this up, or at least agree with me? Beverly Bates tawankabev@aol.com b_bates@efn.org

    2. Hi all, I'm still here but I rarely hear anything about any London Beale families. Is anyone else researching that name in London? I'm searching for a Thomas Beale or Thomas William Beale born circa 1818 in Birmingham and later moving to London. Any information would be greatly appreciated. He had two children that I know of: Carolina and Albert. Judy Genealogists don't die they just lose their census.

    3. Hi! The mention of Ninian bringing over 200 Scots to Maryland is very interesting. I joined this mailing list because military records show that my ancestor Samuel Teater, and George Teater, served in the French and Indian War 1757-1758 under Captains Josiah Beall and Alexander Beall, respectively. The best accepted theory is that George and Samuel were of German origin and the name was Dieter in the old country, but there is no concrete evidence and I have my doubts. Samuel also named one of his daughters Charity, which is a name I have seen in the Beall family. After he moved to western PA with his in-laws the Doddridges, he is supposed to have signed a petition calling for a Presbyterian minister from Maryland to serve their congregation. My question is, if the passenger list can't be found, were there any land records naming these 200 people? Sincerely, Sue Draper Orlando, FL

He stated that to complete the test we should touch nine (9), zero(0), pound sign (#) and hang up. Luckily, we were suspicious and refused. Upon contacting the telephone company we were informed that by pushing 90# you end up giving the individual that called you access to your telephone line and allows them to place a long distance telephone call, with the charge appearing on your telephone bill. I have Amelia (sometimes Permelia) Beale (their spelling)b. c. 1800 marrying William Brown 1818 in Warren County MS. In 1828 she married John A Stringer and subsequently moved to Pulaski Co KY. She states 44 yrs of age in 1850 but following her through the subsequent censuses she had a tendency to fib. Probably born c. 1800, not 1806. Can anyone help. This has been dangling for two years.
