    3. Hello. I am still faily new to this list and have enjoyed ready all the posts. I am researching the BEALE family from Isle of Wight, Virginia. John Lafayette Beale was born December 5, 1823, and was married to Adeline Frances Dixon (she was Born February 7, 1882), and they had nine children (Sallie, Dora, Vera, Lou, Annie, Thomas, James, John Wesley, and Altheous) He was a farmer. That is wonderful about the witnesses and God-parents for Robert Bell - wonder if the book also included Ninian, Thomas, Alexander and James Beall data? Do you have the data and could you please give the date of baptism? Is the father of this Robert Bell/Beall given? Thanks Dolores

    3. There is a book that is authored by Alexander Graham Bell in which he extracted the information himself during a visit to his ancestoral homelands. The book "Bells of St Andrew" is at Ft Wayne library and was written in 1918, it does give witness/godparents for Robert Bell/Beall they were Robert Wan and John Oliphant. Robert's mother was Jenat Olliphant. (That statement at the time of her marriage to John Watkins about 1715) Since the Col. died in 1717, I and my whole family have missed the "date" problem. 3. Cary, Do you see any WARMANs in your book? If you do, I would be happy if you can check on whether a Surname is mentioned for the parents and Grandparents of Sarah WATTS who d. Feb 1700 and m. Stephen WARMAN (1670-1740). Sarah WATTS was the dau. of Francis WATTS and Sarah (???). The question mark is what I need. 3. Cary, I for one appreciate the data you sent. Did anyone else besides me note there is not a primary reference quote from the parish record? Does anyone have the parish record listing the births/baptisms of Ninian, Thomas, Alexander, James and Robert Beall? The records for birth would/should give the names of the parents of each of the above named men. The baptism records would give the parents names and the names of any God-parents. Thanks Dolores Miltenberger

    3. Hi there Foxlover and anyone else I wonder IF people are REALLY serious about who they say were married to whom. OR are they speculating to see if someone else will verify the statements. Perhaps, they are using their speculations to try to get the correct sounding parents etc., and then go about documenting the information. Whatever we are all doing - we have to stop and think a little more, check dates more carefully, or get some dates, THEN try to document information before really taking it on as correct. I did learn a lot by putting out some speculation and seeing the interesting replys, however now I have something to work with and will now, quit the speculation and search for documentation. It appears that many people have searched in vain for the actual parents of Col. Ninian BEALL, (from professional genealogists doing it for 80 combined years). From what they told me there were two Ninian Bealls and the "big boy" Col Ninian was not married to Elizabeth Gordon, he was married to Ruth Moore. That is verified by a history book, listing early marriages. It is far too easy for people to take families that are of the correct dates and match them up to whoever. I have always thought the dates of the births of "supposed" Col. Ninian's children, show that the people were NOT all in that same family. However, I don't know and it would all have to be documented before I add any of the info to my database. I have seen mention as to the Beall/WARMAN connection in the history books where they say Mary WARMAN who m. John WATKINS was a descendent of Ninian BEALL and owned land in Prince George's County. (That statement at the time of her marriage to John Watkins about 1715) Since the Col. died in 1717, I and my whole family have missed the "date" problem. If Mary Warman was a descendent of Ninian BEALL - it MUST have been another Ninian and not the Col. or he had already given her property in Prince George's County. 3. Hi, Is anyone out there interested in information on Captain Charles Gassaway, who married Ruth Beall, daughter of Ninian Beall. Or Harry Hammond, married Mary born 1784 daughter of Ninian Edmonston and Ann Maria (Stricker) Beall, a descendant of Ninain Beall and Alexander Magruder? These are in the book Anne Arundel Gentry. I'd be happy to type up the information from the book, if someone wants it. Happy to help. Cary Schooling Campbell

According to FMM Beall's book p. 150: Deed Liber F, folio 25 P.G. Co. 1717. See Will Liber 1, folio 238, P.G.Co., 1734 for marriage of: Mary Ann Edmonston b 1703 dr / Col. Archibald Edmonston and his wife, Jane Beall Edmonston, dr/ Col. Ninian Beall. Mary Ann Edmonston md. James Beall, Jr. born 1698 d. 1733 who inherits from his father land called part of Good Luck on the west side of Cabbin John Branch, and a tract of land called Lone Head. May 15, 1729, Mr. James Beall, Jr. was appointed by the vestry of St. Paul's Rock Creek Church, a tobacco counter, for Eastern Branch 100. Will probated 1733 P.G. Co., W.B. No. 1, folio 220. Remember that in specifying relationship the terms Jr. and Sr. do not necessarially mean father and son - could be denoting the age of uncle and nephew, and the ages of cousins. Also persons referred to their "cousins the children of their brother or sister". The terms niece and nephew were also used - makes life interesting trying to prove relationships. p.149: James Beall, Jr. is the son of James Beall who had land called Good Luck, located on east side of Cabbin John Branch, surveyed 4 June 1714. Patented April 20 1719. See Rent Roll Book, P.G.Co., No. 1, folio 333. He md. Sarah Pearce, 1693 d/ John and Sarah Pearce. See deed Liber A, folio 361, P.G.Co., 1701. After the death of James Beall, 1725, his wife Sarah md. Dr. John Haswell of P.G.Co. She survived Dr. John. Her will probated Nov. 28. 1761. W.B. No.1, folio 535, P.G.Co "my granddaughter Charity, dr of my son James." and also her d Sarah O'Dell. p. 141 same book: James Beall of Alexander b. 1690 d. 1734 Mentioned in father's will of 1743/4 Sept. 6, 1744 P.G.Co., Liber 1, folio 362 "children of son james deceased" James, s/ Alexander Beall and Elizabeth Coombs had issue: Alexander 1730, James born 1728 md. 1752 Elizabeth Edmonston b. 3 April 1732 d. 1820 Has anyone checked these references of wills and deeds or seen other references to refute same? BEALL Members of the Beall family, that is, Ninian, Thomas, Alexander, James and Robert, were natives of St. Andrew's Parish, Fifeshire, Scotland, where their births or baptisms are registered in the parish archives. The naming of their Maryland plantations also attested to their Scottish heritage. The Socttish Spelling was "Bell" and was so used in early Maryland records. why "a" was inserted is unknown, but after the first generation Beall was consistently used by all members of the family. The Scottish research was conducted by the late Alexander Graham Bell who invented the telephone and phonograph, although he was not a scion of the Fifeshire.
