Hi, listers, this post is re: Peter BEECHLEY and Martha Ann who were married in 1861, Allegany Co., MD. I don't know how many of you that have worked on this line, have the info that Martha Ann was full-blood Cherokee Indian. Some say it might have been Chocktaw instead. In my family oral histories, we have that her real maiden name was CASTEEL, and that she was raised by the DeWITT household, and used that name on the marriage records when she married Peter BEECHLEY. Well, when I don't have anything better to do, I try and think up possibilities of this brickwall.....here's the latest..... Is it possible that Martha Ann's Mother was the full-blood Indian and that she was married to a CASTEEL....he died and she married a DeWITT, and together they raised Martha Ann and her bro, Barney, and sister, Margaret as DeWITTs?
