Haplogroup Q occurs in a large are. a triangle between Norway, Iran and Mongolia, plus every Native American. So, until I get the deep Clade test, there are three options, The Viking story, a Hun or Alan, or the Shawnee/Cherokee Milkman(though this may be just from my gggreat grandma). The Y chromosome is handed from father to son, so it is the one you follow for the surname line. I'm not aware of any Baysinger/Basinger DNA study (yet), so there is no one for you to compare with, yet. It looks like your test was for 12 markers, which can give you a rough idea of whether or not you match with others of your surname. I suggest you put your markers into some of the public Y-dna databases, such as http://www.ysearch.org/ , the FTDNA database, Ybase, Genealogy by numbers: http://www.ybase.org/ and World Families Network: http://worldfamilies.net/ For more information on DNA for genealogy research, see: http://genweblog.blogspot.com/2006/02/genealogy-and-genetics.html Hope this helps, Valorie <--- who would love to see someone start a Baysinger DNA study Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. Terri, My source was clearly incorrect, but I have no idea where Ray got his information. 1. [Baysinger] Elizabeth's death
    2. Terri, Ray Baysinger and I corresponded years ago -- b.c. (before computers). I don't know about his research on Elizabeth's death but know that I was handed family "stories" on many of my families and did not have access at that time to all the genealogy info that I do now. I have been slowly trying to prove/disprove many of those tales. Maybe that is what happened in the case of Elizabeth's death. So, maybe that is the case with Ray's death date for Elizabeth OR maybe he knew something that we don't. <smile> Like you though, I think that Elizabeth died after 1880. Did Peter own any land that he might have sold after 1880 and before his death. Elizabeth should have been listed on those sales if similar to other states. In the 1880 census did he rent or own property? Can't wait to get my own computer back. UGH. Take care. Marilyn

    1. Re: [Baysinger] Elizabeth Baysinger death date
    2. Terri Malinowski
    3. Larry, That's rather interesting information about Elizabeth Rice Baysinger's 1848 death because the 1880 census lists Peter and Elizabeth living in Elmendaro Township, Lyon Co, Kansas. Peter was 72 years old, born in Virginia, and Elizabeth was 66, born in Kentucky, which coincides with their six-year age difference (Peter was born in 1808 and Elizabeth in 1814) and their places of birth. Peter had lived in Kansas since 1855-57 when he and his oldest son, Elias Henry (my great-grandfather), moved there either from Iowa or Missouri and were caught up in the Bloody War pitting slavery and anti-slavery forces against each other in a pre-civil war effort to determine Kansas' allegiance. Further, two years after her alleged death, Elizabeth was listed in the 1850 census with husband Peter and assorted children, again with the same places of birth and same age differential, residing in Schuyler Co, MO. She and Peter are also listed in the 1855 Kansas state census, listed with their children in the 1860 US census in Kansas and listed in the 1870 US census, then living in Palmyra Township, Douglas Co., KS. So I'm not sure how Elizabeth could have died in 1848. They did indeed have nine children by 1848, however, ranging from Elias Henry born in 1832 to Zachariah Taylor born in 1848. Any thoughts on how the two sources you mentioned could have gotten their information? Terri Malinowski On Apr 30, 2008, at 4:31 PM, Lawrence E. 3. Terri, I have a copy of a letter sent in 1981 by Dorothy Knauff (who died in 1982) to Ray Baysinger(who also died many years ago). For what it's worth there are some notations on the side of the letter which seem to have been written by Ray that might shed some light on the death of Elizabeth (Rice) Baysinger. One notation says "The same year his wife died,1848, Peter left his oldest boys in Iowa, and youngest child and Peter migrated to Kansas(Lyons County)". Elsewhere Ray states that Elizabeth died in childbirth in Iowa in 1848 and left 9 children. Apparently she died of complications connected with the birth of Zachariah Taylor Baysinger, who was born on Jan. 12, 1848 in Mitchell County, Iowa. At this point we are still unaware of his town of origin so I am contacting all descendants of Minerva 1770 travelers to see if they know the town of origin of their ancestor. So far I am finding a lot of Alsace, France. How certain are you of the town of origin? Thanks, Jackie Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [Baysinger] DNA test
    2. _www.familytreedna_ (http://www.familytreedna) has that one BAYSINGER has been tested but I cannot find the results. Just curious if this is someone from a known line from Johann Peter Baysinger and if so, what haplogroup they are in. Trying to collect this info for future researchers. I feel sure that many -- if not all- the Baysingers would have a common ancestor at some point in time but I have a pretty solid paper trail from Johann Peter down to Elias Henry. Take care. MY gggrandfather is Henry Basinger born in Rowan County N. C. around 1790. He married Lucinda Watson in Morgan County Alabama in 1826. I am told he is the grandson of Johan Peter but I have been unable to make the connection. No one seems to be able to find his parents name. I have been able to get information any further back. GW Basinger was also my husband's great-great-grandfather. His great grandmother was Melinda Basinger daughter of GW Basinger, who married Patrick Henry Turner in Missouri. I would be interested in sharing any of my information with you in exchange for any information you might have.
