Author: terrimal Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.baysinger/362.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: When I was in Colorado getting Peter Baysinger's gravestone set in June, I checked probate records for Nancy Frances Longan and her husband, William Longan. His assets were left to her and four children, two of whom lived in eastern Washington at the time (1919)! They were Rosa B. Callender of Percell, Weld County, CO (step-daughter); Arthur U. Harbor of Spokane (step-son);Laura V. Perkins of Elmira, WA (daughter); and Maggie Grace Coates of Longmont, CO (daughter). I know Nancy Frances was married to Abner Harbour in 1866 and was widowed later, so the first two children above must be from the Harbour marriage. The latter two obviously belonged to Longan. The farm and personal property appeared to be the intact possession of Longan for decades, so no infusion from Peter Baysinger that I could ascertain. Longan conveyed a fair amount of property, including a quarter section of land (I think that's 640 acres), horses, cows, farm machinery, and well over $1,000 in savings. Nancy Frances died in 1929 in Longmont, Weld Co., CO. Her estate went to the three children, all of whom lived in Longmont by that time: Grace Coates, Arthur U. Harbor, and Laura V. Perkins. I am in touch with Grace Coates' grandson (actually, the grandson's wife, Judy McDaniel) in Colorado. But that's the extent of her knowledge. However, I note in voting records and in various federal censuses (1860, 1870, 1880) that other Baysingers lived in the vicinity of Peter and Elisabeth in Elmendaro Township, Lyon County, KS, presumably their sons. I haven't had time to check that or whether there are descendants there yet. Terri Malinowski Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Now I'm wondering about Lyon Co. KS land records, and if they would cast any light on the situation. The Register of Deeds in Emporium KS has the records from 1856 on, and I don't see that the LDS has microfilmed them. The Kansas State Historical Society suggests county atlases, but it looks as if you have to visit their library to consult them. Perhaps they are held elsewhere, too? For Lyon County, they list: LM 492, no. 2; Illustrated Historical Atlas of Lyon County. Philadelphia: Edwards Bros., 1878. Perhaps we can find that somewhere. Checking the land and court records of Weld Co. CO might be useful too, if he owned any land there, or perhaps passed other property to Nancy LONGAN. 1. [Baysinger] Exciting developments
    2. Valorie Zimmerman
    3. Good things are happening! It all started when Christopher Baysinger and Jay T. Basinger found me on Facebook. They both have done yDNA testing, and have proven that at least some of the Swiss BOSINGER/BOSIGERs are part of the same family as our Alsatians. In fact, they have traced part of the Swiss directly to the Alsace and surrounds, as well as part of the family which emigrated directly from Switzerland. Here is part of Christopher's family: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~dbernhardt/A Glimpse into the Past-p/p21.htm#i712 I believe his Swanzy Brandenburg Baysinger b. 25 December 1849, d. 12 March 1918 to be a cousin of some sort of my gggrandfather Peter Baysinger. From that website: "Swanzy Brandenburg Baysinger was born on 25 December 1849 at Breckinridge, Hardin, Kentucky.1 Swanzy appeared on the census of 1870 at Rock Creek Township, Hancock, Illinois.2 He married Lydia Jane Harding, daughter of William Harvey Harding and Marion Elizabeth Wheelock, on 19 March 1872 at Missouri.3 Swanzy and Lydia appeared on the census of 1880 at Twin Mounds, Rooks, Kansas.4 Swanzy and Lydia appeared on the census of 1900 at Eastern Precinct, Knox, Nebraska.5 Swanzy and Lydia appeared on the census of 1910 at Meadow Grove, Madison, Nebraska.6 Swanzy Brandenburg Baysinger died on 12 March 1918 at Casper, Natrona, Wyoming, at age 68.1" Christopher has started a Basinger group on Facebook, and a DNA group at Ancestry. I'll let him tell you more about that. Jay also has a Basinger group on Ancestry, which is focused on the Swiss branch. Very interesting! I hope both have subbed, and will tell the rest of us more about their work. We need some Baysinger & Basinger males to do the yDNA test, and now is the time -- FT DNA is running a sale through the end of the month. Wouldn't it be fabulous to finally break through, and prove (or disprove) that our research is correct, and actually move beyond the records? I'm very excited by these developments. By the way, if you are on FB, hit me up! And check out Christopher's group, too. Lots of people there whom I have never seen speak up here. 2. Terri, I am not sure that I have anything to add to Elizabeth Rice Baysinger but I"ll send it your way and let you decide. We do know that her father was Elias from her marriage record -- the matter for discussion is WHO IS HER MOTHER. I have a date of birth for Elizabeth of January 24, 1814 with no source -- assume someone sent this to me early in my research. Elias was married to a Catherine and to Jane Rogers Mary Wentz has Jane Rogers ROBEY and in an estate settlement , she is listed as being the daughter of JAMES Rogers (born 1742) and MARTHA Blackburn.  Mary feels that Jane may have been married to a READ between Robey and Rice. If Asa Ruby/Robey died in 1803 and Elias did not have a wife listed in 1820 but did in 1830, then she had time for another marriage in there.  Let me know what you think. Take care. 3. Hi, Marilyn: You asked me in April to remind you later about Elias Rice and ask who he was married to, Mary and/or Catherine. You said at that time your computer was sick and needed to be healed. So here I am, reminding you. My notes indicate (mostly from your research) that Catherine was the first wife of Elias Rice and was probably the mother of Elizabeth Rice. Catherine apparently died, and Elias then married Jane Rogers. I still have found nothing on Elizabeth Rice Baysinger after the 1880 census appearance in Kansas of Peter and Elizabeth Rice. The next record is that of Peter's death just six years later in Sept. 1886 in Weld County, Colo. and his subsequent burial in Bear Cañon Cemetery at Sedalia, Douglas County, Colo. He was in an unmarked grave, but I have since had a stone marker installed there and actually viewed it in June when I visited my daughter in the Denver area. No answers as to where and when Elizabeth died or where she is buried. Nor any answers as to when Peter moved to Colorado, presumably to live with their daughter, Nancy Baysinger Longan, in Longmont, Weld County. Why he was buried dozens of miles south of Longmont is a puzzle, as is an unmarked grave beside his. Maybe it's Elizabeth, maybe not. Or maybe daughter Nancy, maybe not. Happy Labor Day weekend. I hope the approaching hurricane will not cause you any danger? 1. [Baysinger] Bussingers and another request......
    2. Terry
    3. Hi All! About a year ago I took over the Bussinger web group. I'm a newbie to this kind of group. It wasn't until about a week about that I realized there was only about 4 or 5 members in the group! My Bussingers came from Switzerland in the first half of the 1800's to Philadelphia, PA. I have no clue what happened to them after that (other than my own GGG grandmother Anna Maria Bussinger.) In fact, I don't KNOW anything, but I suspected that a Bussinger family who immigrated from Ormaligen, Basel, Switzerland a week before my VERIFIED ancestors who sailed to Philadelphia..... I really BELIEVE there IS a connection! The OTHER request, is..... Well, I have a blog written mostly for amateur Genealogists and simple family tree researchers. My intention is to provide helpful information to family researchers. It's called "Tangled Branches and Restless Roots" at: http://tangledbranchesnrestlessroots.blogspot.com/ I write about a number of subjects, like old names of professions, genealogy humor, nicknames for common names that you might not expect.... Recently I tried to do a survey that hasn't seemed to work out. I got a few people who were REALLY interested, but I'm not sure if it made it out to everyone. I also realized I needed to better define my categories. I'd like to get the following information (No names will be included in my results! I work alone, so no one else will EVER know where this info came from! I guarantee it!) I'd like to know (on a scale from 1 to 5 (or better) 1 to 10) which are your favorite FREE Genealogical websites (this can include paid sites that offer FREE services which you use (For example, I use Ancestry.com's FREE service, not the paid part of it.)) Next, I'd like to know 1 to 5 (or) 10 your favorite PAID Genealogical websites. Finally, I'd like to know, on the same scale, the biggest rip-off sites you've experienced (ones that promised more than they could deliver, poor service, bad experiences, etc.....) I'm asking this information to help others know where they can turn to, and which ones to avoid. I'd love to hear from ANYONE, regardless of how many sites you have visited. If you can only give me one or so sites, I STILL want to hear you opinions!!!
