Regarding the death date of Johan Peter, the following was in the Judgment and Order Book #6 1798 - 1801 of Rockingham County, Virginia. In the June session of 1801 we find: "On the motion of Barbara Basinger and Michael Basinger, administrators of all and singular goods and chattel rights and credits of Peter Basinger as granted them, they having made oath thereto and with Matthias Weelberger their security entered into and acknowledged bond in the penalty of 7000 dollars conditional as the law directs". The 1801 date for the death of Johan Peter is correct. Although I did not find a record of his death I did find in Rockingham County a record of the settlement of his estate. The confusing part is that his property is listed as the Johan Peter property on the tax lists for a number of years after his death. After Johan Peter's death his family moved to Greenbrier County in what is now West Virginia, so if he had died in 1808 he would have been living in Greenbrier County at the time. Hi all, I was googling for something else, and came across hit after hit in the Kentuckiana Online collection, at http://kdl.kyvl.org/ . I was looking at the newspapers, but you might find other stuff too, I don't know. Their search is a bit odd -- you get to a collection, such as a newspaper, then you search again, and get the specific issues, then search each issue for your search term again. Anyway, if you have Kentucky Baysingers, feel free to transcribe any interesting bits you run across, even if they aren't yours. I can't count the number of times I've gotten "thank yous" for various snippets I've found around, and sent to the list. You never know what will make a connection for someone! I don't imagine anyone has a "pure" line. Judy Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I guess you should be prepared for any results that you receive. My closest paternal DNA match happened to be a Bassinger/Baysinger. It was not a close match, 13 generations or approximately 350 years but the truth is that sometime in the mid-1600s a Basinger male had relations with a Schoedinger married woman and that child was born a Schoedinger and continued to have sons down to my generation. It could have been an adoption or a stepchild who took the name. Now that doesn't change the fact that that "adopted" child continued down the ages and I am certainly part of the Schoedinger family... or am I? Interesting but takes my genealogy in another direction. My Bassinger cousin's line goes back to 1700 in Alsace France which is close to where the Schoedingers also come from. Judy Lehman, JudyLehm@sbcglobal.net My Basinger line: Jacob 1700 Alsace, Phillip Jacob Leemmer 1746 Germany, Michael Dreher 1776 PA, Phillip Woolive 1805 VA, Stephen Bassinger 1826 TN, William L 1858 TN, Robert Frank 1888 TX, Robert Leslie 1920 TX. Settlement of estate of Elias Rice 1845 Deed Book G page 151-152 Clay Co. Ind. Heirs John C. William C, Daniel C, James Bailey and wife Catherine, Nancy Hart, infant daughter of Jacob hart and wife Susan, deceased. No clue as to why Elizabeth was not mentioned other than possibility that they had left for parts unknown. Polly Rice was possibly the wife of John -- Elias appears to be living with them in 1840. In the 1810 census, Elias was enumerated with two young females and in 1820 -- he added three more so not all the females were named in this will. Take care.
