    2. Just thought their might be some new people on here who don't have this info. I have lots of odds and ends -- probably need lots of updating also. This represents some of my own research and some sent by others. As usual, any and all discussion, corrections etc are welcome. I have not been to Lancaster to look at the actual records. Take care. 3. This was not the one of the two Baysingers who were hanged. Possibly the reason William's name couldn't be found in censuses of Oklahoma was that he was in another state. A Jihn Baysinger is listed in the mormon reccords as my gggrandfather. He is said to have had a daughter named Caroline. Teh mother;s name was melissa. When caroline was a small child her mother married a Abraham Dryman. I found a John Basysinger who died the year Melissa married Dryman. The Drymans are in the 1850 and 1580 census rolls of Greene Countyl My ggrandmother married a John Walker Lankford. hIs son John was my grandfather. The marriage papers for Melissa and Abraham listed her name as Melissa Gosnell. A Michael Baysinger is on the census rolls and was living with hius daughter and her husband Latison Gosnell. Latison and Melissa were brothers and sisters. Can anyone help me with the connections between the Gosnells and Baysingers? Caroline's daughter, my great aune, Mollie Huffaker, gave the Mormons the name of john Baysinger as Caroline's father. any help would be appreciated. -------------------------------------------------------

Marilyn Claims of the Citizens of Territory of Kansas, Volume 1859, p 558, 559, 560 #302 "To the Honorable Commissioner of Claims: The petition of Peter Baysinger, under the act of the legislative assembly, and an act supplementary thereto, approved 23d of February, 1857, providing for the auditing and certifying of claims for damage suffered during the late troubles in Kansas Territory. The above named petitioner respectfully shows to this commissioner, that on or about the 30th of November, 1854, this petitioner resided at Black Jack Point, on the Santa Fe road, in Kansas Territory; that while this petitioner was absent from home a large band of armed men, as this petitioner is informed and believes, entered the house of this petitioner and drove his family from therein and stole and carried away five hundred and sixty-five dollars in gold, broke and destroyed one gun, of the value of fifteen dollars; that he was the legal owner of the said money and of the said gun; that those persons claimed to be Missourians, and declared that this petitioner should not live in Kansas Territory; that on or about the 30th of March, 1855, a party of armed men, as the petitioner is informed and believes, came to the house of this petitioner, while he was absent, and tore the room off from the house and threw the sides of it nearly down; also tearing down the chimney; put fire into the beds and lard can, with the honest intention of burning the house; broke to pieces one bedstead, one double-barrel shot-gun, one clock, and divers dishes and household furniture, of the damage to this petitioner of five hundred dollars; that this petitioner was the legal owner of said house and prooperty destroyed; that the house was one story and a half high and 18 by 20 feet on the ground; that he now resides in Douglas county, Kansas Territory, and that said property and money has not been returned to this petitioner, or any part been returned to him, nor has any remuneration been made therefor. Therefore this petitioner prays that the sum of ten hundred and sixty dollars may be allowed him for his damage in the premises." Signed Peter Baysinger, his mark, in Lawrence, November 16, 1857.

I can access the online databases from my home by logging onto the library’s web site, entering my library card number, and then using the library’s gateway to access external databases. In effect, I was able to access the newspaper articles at no charge but had to go through several steps to finally read the articles of interest." I just checked my library's databases (a LOT of databases!) and NewspaperArchive isn't one of them. :( However, it does have a cool feature -- you can search some or all of the databases in a particular category for a keyword, title, author, etc., all at once. What a time-saver! I searched all the news sources, and the only Baysinger listings were recent. One of the most interesting was about a Colorado man, Gary Baysinger, who runs a venison processing plant. I'm always interested in Baysingers from Colorado, since my gggrandfather Peter left Iowa for Colorado, and had more children out there. I imagine that most CO Baysingers are cousins. Anyway, if I was a close relative of any of these Baysingers, you can bet I would be trying to find those newspapers on microfilm! Have fun, Valorie

Baysinger of the 1880 census, listed as living in Castle Grove, Ia, was Felix, a son of John Baysinger and Mary(Polly) Williams, born in Breckinridge County, Ky. before his family moved to Edgar County, Il. The listed age in the census is compatible with the 1826 birth year of Felix, and the father, John, was born in Rockingham County, Va. on Feb 15, 1799. John and Polly were married in Kentucky ca 1822. John died in Edgar County, Il.on 10 Oct, 1839, and Polly married John S. Bennett on 19 Dec, 1840. 3. To Marilyn: What you have is correct re: the Jones/Baysinger marriage, but there is no record so far for their divorce. Yes, we have been on this family a long time, haven't we! And I do know Elias Baysinger was in Kansas 1854-60. The lore that he was part of John Brown's Raid is, so far, just lore because I've never verified that either. Sometimes, cousins by marriage are the best because we work harder at this genealogy thing, I think. (Notice that my name is spelled Terri Malinowski). No problem either way. How LONG have we been working on this family? Warren County, Iowa records show a marriage 9 July 1854 by William P. Jenkins, J.P., for Margaret Jones and Elias Henry Baysinger (Certificate #11). I also have information that Elias H. Baysinger was in Kansas 1854-1860. 3. Hi, Marilyn and others interested in Elias Baysinger: Thanks for your Elias Baysinger summary. I learned several new things and appreciate very much your compilation and research. Incidentally, my current email address is terrim1@earthlink.net, rather than the old accessone.com entry you have. Also, I have never found a record of a divorce between Elias and Margaret Jones in Kansas, so I don't know where that occurred. I am working on my own compilation of Elias it relates to my ancestral line. If I run across anything else, I'll send it to you. Terri Malinowski
