Hi Listers... I'm still trying to find info on the ancestors of Jesse E(rwin) Baxter, b. 11/1/1836 in McDowell Co, NC; d. 10/13/1902 in Siloam Springs, Randolph Co, AR; m. #1 Eliza Jane Adams abt 1853 in Reynolds Co, MO. They had 4 children before Eliza Jane died in a smallpox epidemic in 1862: George W., b 1854; Sarah Elizabeth, b. 1857; Nevada Jane, b. 1859; Francis Marion, b. 8/12/1861. Jesse then m. #2 Eliza Jane Dennison about 1862 in Reynold Co, MO. Eliza Jane Dennison was b. 1/12/1843 in Barron Co, KY and d. 12/15/1912 in Siloam Springs, Randolph Co, AR. They had 8 children: Mary Belle, b. 3/27/1866; Eliza Ann, b. 1867; Sidney E., 11/1869; Rose Dorella, b. 1872; Julia, b. 1874; Cordelia, b. 1876; Jesse, b. 1880; and Druscilla, b. 1882. In the 1850 census of McDowell Co, NC, I found Elizabeth Baxter (widow) with Silvester, David and Sidney. In the 1860 census of Reynolds Co, MO, I found Elizabeth Baxter (widow) just doors down from other sons: William and Jesse. Two of her children remained in McDowell Co, NC: Minerva and Finley. We have no given name for the Baxter husband of Elizabeth; however, he would have been born about 1800-1805. Their first child was b. abt 1822 in McDowell Co, NC. As far as we can prove, this Baxter family is not directly connected to the William Baxters of Rutherford Co, NC. They could be from a brother or cousin of William, but not William himself. Any assistance with this brick wall would be greatly appreciated. Lois in Auburn, CA
