I am trying to trace David William Baxter, or any of his offspring. DWB was born in South Africa in 1870, moved to the United States of America about 1886. One of his nieces meet him with her father, his brother in 1935 in Chicago, but he was living in Fort Wayne where he was teaching singing. Apparently DWB had a fine bass voice. DWB married twice, there were two children from his first marriage. If there is anyone out there who might know of him, his family or suggest a way that I might research, I would appreciate a message. I have had a look at the Ellis Island site but I think the date of entry is prior to this sites records. I look forward to hearing from someone. Iain S
The last part of the first paragraph of the original message is wrong. DWB was not born in SA and did not move to the States in 1886. Real story is: David William Baxter was born in Dundee, Scotland in 1870 and in the 1881 census is living at home at 77 Annfield Road, Dundee. He is also shown at home in the 1891 census but is missing from the 1901 census. The rest of the story is OK. Apologies for the error.
