Dear Janet, Your grandfather, Rev. James A. Baxter, was the brother of my grandfather, Joseph Eggleston Baxter. As far as I know from my Dad's and Uncle Joe's research, the parents of the Thomas Baxter who married Nancy Stanford are still unknown, although there is much speculation about how he attached to the brothers, Theophilus and Israel, who migrated from George to Mississippi. More is known about Israel's descendants, many of whom settled in Alabama, than about Theophilus's, whose Georgia passport mentions eight children, but does not name them. If and when I retire, I plan to get with Joe's daughters, and try to do a new edtion of his and his wife Virginia's book, "John Warren and Related Families." Regards, Bob Robert S. Are you sure your Nathaniel Baxter died in NC and not VA? I've just never heard of that county in NC but have other lines that do come from Albemarle Co., VA. If that is the case it could be one of the reasons you can't locate anything on him, your looking in the wrong state.
