I was told that he was "English" and was a colonel in the war. His son (my grandfather) was Clarence S. Stewart. Not at home at the moment so I don't have exact dates with me but he was born in the early 1900's (before 1914) and died in 1992. He married my Grandmother (Klos) in Canada. Not exactly sure what year they came to the U.S. but it was after 1930. Clarence's mother's maiden name is listed as "Baxter" on death certificate. Was "George" by any chance a colonel that you know of? I am only beginning the search on this side. Thanks

My GGrandmothers name was Baxter and she married a Stewart. I still don't know any first names. I only know that my Grandfather was born in Saskatchewan? We never knew anything of his family at all growing up almost 50 years now! I would start by tracing back where your mother was born first, then you should be able to find records. Check on who she knew and who knew her, etc. It takes alot of work and diligent searching. If it is important enough to you, it will be worth the time. Keep focused and stay open to any leads that you come across. No matter how trivial it may seem, let me know if I can be of any help.

When we went to get a copy of her birth certificate we found the one she had was altered. She was always told her mothers name was Helen Holloway, and she married a man named Baxter who died before she was born. According to her real birth certificate, her mom's name was Helen Baxter and her father was someone else. Apparently in that time women lied when their children were born out of wedlock. I am looking for info on Helen Baxter(my grandmother). She claimed to have a twin named Ellen and that she was an orphan born in Washington D.C. We never knew anything about her family so I don't know if any of this is true. I believe she was 56 when she died in 1981. Of course this could have been a lie as well. Does anyone know who she is or where I should start?
