I am looking for anyone who can give me direction to find my husband's elusive great grandfather, Valentin/Valentine Schneider/Snyder, in Bavaria. We have his naturalization papers (he signed Valentin Snyder) and they only say Kingdom of Bavaria--no parish mentioned in any of the records we have found to date on this man. He immigrated in 1864 according to his naturalization papers. We searched the ship arrival records for arrivals to New York City prior to Oct 30 1864. We found a Val Schneider age 20 laborer from Germany, on the SS Louisiana Oct 1864 from Liverpool. We found Valentine Snyder in the 1870 U. S. Census in Bridgewater Township, Somerset, New Jersey. In the 1880 U. S. Census he is living in Manhattan, New York. In 1899 Valentine's son, John Valentine, is in Jersey City, New Jersey where he married Dorothy Langrehr.
