    1. [BAVARIA] Bryne
    2. The reason I posted the question on Bryne to begin with is because I couldn't find it on any map of Germany that I have. I went online and checked different map sites. Also checked LDS library. My great great grandfather was born June 13, 1813 in Bavaria. I have researched this Hoehn family for at least 8 years and never found a town where he was born. All census records, death records, cemetery records just have Bavaria as his birthplace. Last week I finally found his brother Frank Hoehn. Someone went to the Putnam County Ohio library and found a Hoehn family file there. This file had Frank Hoehn's birthplace as Bryne Germany. That's why I posted this question to the Bavaria mail list. Just thought I'd explain why the question was brought up to begin with. Let's drop the subject now. Janet

    3. You know, Janet, I bet the answer is the very simple one of the recorder not understanding what the answer to the question was. In other words, I bet the person giving his place of birth said Bayern or Baiern and the recorder heard Bry-en (and transposed the ne). If this is the case, you are still stuck with the the State of Bavaria but no town name. I put Bryne into the Shtetlseeker and it gave a long list of similar spellings and similar sounding names but nothing that might have been Bryne as a town name. Here is the url and you can see for yourself. http://www.jewishgen.org/ShtetlSeeker/loctown.htm Sorry, we couldn't help. Mary Ann > Hoehn family file there.
