Hello, I just joined this list and need help locating a town. My great great grandfather Michael HOEHN was born in Bavaria. I just found his brother Frank and information where he was born. I'm looking for a town named Bryne. Is this in Bavaria? On census records Frank always put that he was born in Bavaria. In the Putnam County Ohio library there is a family file that has his birthplace as Bryne Germany. I can't find this on any map I have of Germany. Thanks for your help. Janet

Not even that the town name had been changed. Most likely the name was misspelled or the person writing the info could not understand what was being said and wrote whatever he/she thought it was and really distorted the name. This does happen, more often than we wish. There are other ways of trying to hone in on the name, and hopefully you will receive some help in this regard. Nancy
