I am a total newbie to research in Germany, so I do not know what is available. My search is for Charles Zahnow, born in 1856. The only information I have so far is from several census listings that he was born in Bavaria. He emigrated from Germany to the US in 1870. I guess, at this point, I am hoping someone else is searching for a missing family member, since this is not a lot to go on. Nothing ventured - nothing gained. Is there a state listing for births, or was it predominately church records at that time? Any help of clues will be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Dawn-Moree Dugan in Maryland

Hi If your Relatives were comming to America after 1850 there is a good chance for you to find the names and dates in the LDS chip-list since the schip captains were by international law required to register all passengers so you would have passenger names age wether single or married ,spaus and birthday and birth place also the parents names and place.
