Thank you for all your replies and suggestions. I have checked the LDS website many times without any luck, but will continue to check it. Changing names over the years makes it challenging :) I can only hope that if I ever do find information there, that it will be more accurate than some of the other information I have gotten from that site. I will pursue checking with the church records in the town he lived in. He lived in Webster NY, and did have a sister named Mary...but she lived past 1881.
