GREAT-GREAT-GRANDFATHER STRAUB--He was from Germany and at the village well getting water. A group of soldiers on horseback came to the well and asked him something in a foreign language. He did not understand what they wanted and offered them his pitcher for a drink of water. In anger, one or more soldiers ran their sabers through him and he died. His sons swore revenge and some or all became professional soldiers. It was possibly Prussian Soldiers who killed gggf Straub according to family lore. One son, retired soldier JOHN BAPTIST STRAUB, born June 24, 1817, place unknown, died 1876 or 1877, married KUNIGUNDA STAAB probably between 1858 and 1860. She was born about 1836, place unknown, and died 1895 in Pittsburgh, PA, USA. Gggf Straub had 11 sons and one daughter, who worked for a prominent attorney in Frankfurt. This was the one who paid for her nephew, JOHN BAPTIST STRAUB, JR. to go to school to become a priest. She died suddenly in her yard. John then left the seminary, a Capuchin monastery, and came to the USA. When John Straub came to the USA in 1881 he had a document in German that read: RELEASE DOCUMENT---The Kingdom from Bavarian government from Unterfranken and Aschaffenburg tells you that the single baker is (learning) apprentice to baker. JOHN BAPTIST STRAUB from Hessenthal born March 15, 1863 from here. County government from city of Aschaffenburg. I am trying to find info on any of the above, or any of the family of the other brothers and sister. When Kunigunda Staab Straub and her daughter Rosina came to the USA in 1887 they first went to New York City because they believed they had "rich" relatives there. They did not find them.
