    3. Good afternoon, I apologize for getting back to the list sooner-- My gg-grandfather, John (I would assume Johann originally) Herberth was born Sept. 2, 1814 in Bavaria, Germany--came to America later than any of my ancesters in 1839--(this data from his obit, which also, for our family proved the story we had been told about our first Herberth to the U.S.A.) He was raised in the Roman Catholic Church, came to America because of problems with this (we were always told the first-born in this branch of the family was expected to become a priest--he refused and came to America as a consequence.) I do not know his "trade." My grandfather was an expert carpenter, my dad an engineer (not train)-- We were always told we had cousins down in New Orleans, La.--from data I got from someone down in La., a Johann Georg Herberth, born about June of 1834 would be this person--his fathers' name was Johann Balthasar Herberth, mothers' name Kunigunda Will or Schuhmann. This gentleman shows a "Motten, Unterfrauhen, Bayern as place of birth--which I cannot find any trace of--much less if this is even any real place in Germany--but since he sent this to me, I'm sending it to you-- Because of the circumstances of my gg-grandfathers' departure, I don't know if there was any further contact with the family in Germany--though we got a letter after V-E Day from Germany indicating they were our family and asking help--and though we sent a lot of CARE packages to Europe, I do not know if they went to this specific family or not. Sorry for the book--since I have you folks on line--can you tell me the part of Germany I would look in for a FILLER surname? Sincerely, Carol H. Dye Pleasant View, Co. [email protected]

    3. Hello , I have listed in my emigrant lists 21 emigrants named Herbert(h) in the period of 1837 - 1856, who all came from different villages in the Bavarian district of Unterfranken. Of these 21 names there are only 4 named Johann, who went to America in 1837, 1844, 1852, 1855. These Johann also came from 4 different places. So I would have to check the chruch books of four places to find the right one. best regards Reinhard Hofer new listed emigrants of Unterfranken of 1837 - 1856. new update of emigrant list from entire Bavaria of 1824 - 1914. see my list at URL www.emigration-research.de.vu
